you will never use biochem after Step 1 unless you do endocrine!

What a waste!

Worked a car accident that produced two critical patients....both transported in my ambulance....nothing says "good times" like dueling traumas.

Strong work.. Praetorian are you still Pre-med? or are u a resident doing EMS? Are you applying to med school this yr? Whats your story man?

I was also curious about this...

I'm still a pre-med (unfortunately) and won't be applying for another two years most likely. Currently my qualifications are as follows:
-Certified Respiratory Therapist (w/ aeromedical experience)
-Echocardiographer (a couple of years experience from when I was in the military and about to the certification exam (finally have the money to do so)
-EMT-Intermediate

I run as a volunteer EMT-I and I also work part time for a small ambulance service but my "main" job (where I make most of my income) is as a funeral director's assistant and this (mortuary science) is actually one of my current majors in school for the simple fact that EMS doesn't pay worth a damn, I hate being a neb jockey and can't stand the immaturity and short-sightedness of most RT's (although I still pick up an occasional shift every now and then when the RT department directors kiss my a-- enough and pay me enough money to make me cave in), and I need a way to provide for myself and my family so I figure- why not embalm people? :meanie:

Any other questions?

studying is overrrated... 🙂

My wife and I got a new king size mattress yesterday. Pillow top with viscous foam relieves the pressure off of my bad shoulder. Individual coils completely eliminate transfer of movement. This is especially important because my wife is a night nurse and on her days off (4-5/week) likes to come to bed 1.5-2 hours before I have to wake up -- inevitably ruining what might have been a good nights sleep. Last night I slept so well on my new mattress and tempurpedic pillow that slept through my first two classes today. Therefore, I must study biochem tonight. Yeah! first good sleep in years!!

In keeping with my worthless post padding theme of great TV quotes from yesterday..... Tonights quote

Me too. Which site? (I'm at Chicago).

I am sick as a dog so looked up about postponing it but the next available date (in Chicago) is in May. 😡

Don't you think with all of us paying a grand they could have a few more sites and/or dates?

Im at Chicago. I hope you start feeling better. The CS is the most ridiculous exam EVER! (which is saying a lot)!

Anyone know how many people take this test each time?

DrMom said:
I can't attest to the CS specifically, but in the DO version there are 12 testing at a time. I would imagine that you'd have something similar.

Take the the PE Saturday, and won't really have any time to prepare. Driving down tomorrow. Oh well. Give it my best shot (wasn't that a Pat Benetar Song?) and see what happens.

This test makes me want to gouge my eyes out. What total complete bs this thing is..Oh well I guess just ANOTHER hoop to jump through!

Actually it is Hit me with your best shot , which may still be appropriate. 😉

Don't sweat the PE too much. Mostly common sense stuff. I've got some posts about it around here somewhere. 🙂

So should I perform an LP on my patients who come in with a presumed cough! I think that will teach the SPs to lie! 🙂

Speaking of, that's an especially appropriate trauma song.

On one of my trauma months, I had a surgery chief who would fire up his palm/MP3 player so we could "set the mood" if we had a few minutes prior to arrival. Good times. (This was mostly in the middle of the night, assuming we were having a good one.)

Strong work everyone we probably get another 30-40 today!... 2500 falls by Friday!

So, we did blood pressure in physiology lab today. We all chose one experiment to subject ourselves to. I chose the "cold-pressor" test - where you stick your hand in a bucket of ice water for some ung-dly length of time. If you are pre-hypertensive, your MABP will go up. Mine dropped. I'm a cold-hearted b-tch, apparently.

I always like seeing people's reaction when they take my BP. I normally run around 96/60 and everyone always asks "Are you feeling OK?" :meanie:

After 2 cups of coffee and a Wendy's meal I was at a whopping 110/70 today. Ha!
