Are some DSL companies faster than others? I have verizon and it runs at 100 mbps/54 mbps with wireless.

I get 6Mb/512Kb - but mine is wired.
That would literally burn the lines up - you would have to cool it somehow. Even for landlined/wired, that's CRAZY fast, and I don't know who has it that fast short of a T1.
Really? perhaps we're looking at different specs? I just got the wireless G router which is supposed to run at 54 mbps.
I think so!
Maybe this helps.
Band- 802.11g
radio frequency- 2.462 GHZ
network name- netgear
speed 54.0 mbps
signal quality- excellent
This is from the icon in the lower right corner.

I think that that is the "throughput" - what's going across the wired network is lower.
Ah, anyway I can find that out?
southerndoc could tell you - he's a techie. I'll see what I can dig up.
I had to do a lot with our network at home. People kept sneaking onto our network so I had to set it up for security. I had no idea what I was doing. I'm surprised that I didn't end up locking myself out.
I thought that Wi-Fi was easily contained just by putting a password on it/encrypting the signal?
What I THINK is that you indeed get the 54Mbps to the router, but the router to the ISP/Internet is much slower.
That's what I THINK it is.

That seems like a good possibility. Even if there is a slow down, I'm not complaining. About the Wi-fi, I'm not sure. I did a bunch of reading about it and kept fiddling around until it worked.

Are you only wireless, or do you also have a wired computer?
We have a wired desktop that's not nearly as fast as notebooks because it's about 10 years old. We use the notebooks at my house.
I gotcha.
I guess my answer is that I don't know, although I think I know (just not sure).

Oh, damn, it's quarter after 6!
I gotta crash for a few hours.
Take it easy, dude!
It's alright. I don't need to know. I just need to know that the machine works, until it decides to take over the world. Then, it gets the buckshot.
I'll drop out too, and put up 20 more posts tomorrow.
dude you guys are rolling along in this here thread. well done..
Last day in the ED then it is OB time.. yuck!
Hmmmm....Now I'm not feeling so silly that I'm practicing my two hand ties while working on the computer.

DKM is still in a great mood. Someone call for the weather report in hell.
I'm between classes right now. And I'm feeling good too.
Hungry though and I jacked up my knee running yesterday. It always hurts when I run, but today it still hurts. I need the army to give me a free MRI or something.
Time for class. Oh yeah, we're almost 1k behind Gen. Res. 🙂
1 closer to passing Gen Res.....
I'm so sorry.

It was not fun at all. It's over for now though, and I am getting ready for a night of abusing my body. I'm hoping for a great curve.
