Are some DSL companies faster than others? I have verizon and it runs at 100 mbps/54 mbps with wireless.

I get 6Mb/512Kb - but mine is wired.
That would literally burn the lines up - you would have to cool it somehow. Even for landlined/wired, that's CRAZY fast, and I don't know who has it that fast short of a T1.
Really? perhaps we're looking at different specs? I just got the wireless G router which is supposed to run at 54 mbps.

I think that that is the "throughput" - what's going across the wired network is lower.

I had to do a lot with our network at home. People kept sneaking onto our network so I had to set it up for security. I had no idea what I was doing. I'm surprised that I didn't end up locking myself out.
I thought that Wi-Fi was easily contained just by putting a password on it/encrypting the signal?
What I THINK is that you indeed get the 54Mbps to the router, but the router to the ISP/Internet is much slower.

That seems like a good possibility. Even if there is a slow down, I'm not complaining. About the Wi-fi, I'm not sure. I did a bunch of reading about it and kept fiddling around until it worked.
Are you only wireless, or do you also have a wired computer?
We have a wired desktop that's not nearly as fast as notebooks because it's about 10 years old. We use the notebooks at my house.
