it's nothing. just randomness.
why'd you choose apollyon?
why'd you choose apollyon?
Do you really want to know?
It's rather literary - and involved.
Ok...
"Apollyon" is the destroyer.
In the Old Testament, the "Angel of Death", who flew over the houses taking the first born, was Apollyon.
go on....
The houses that put the sacrificial blood on the doorframes were "passed over" by the destroyer, and that's where "Passover" comes from.
'Apollyon' is Greek - also spelled Apolion, Appollyon, Apolyon - but all pronounced the same way.
In Hebrew, the destroyer is "Abaddon" (also spelled "Abbadon") - as in "sheol and abaddon" - "death and destruction"
!! jeepers!!!
In religious writings, Apollyon is an angel of God.
is it "Apol-lyon" ?
There is also, though, the opinion that Apollyon brings the plague of locusts in Revelations.
Ah-poll-ee-on.
In secular writings, such as in Milton's Paradise Lost, Apollyon is one of the fallen angels - a demon in Hell.
Interesting. You know, I think that biblical names are the best.
As for me, it is symbolic in that not everything that comes from God is good, but turns out to be the right thing in the end.
Hey Todd! how are you?
I should have gone with super cool bible name.
that is way cool. Very creative. thanks for explaining it. I kind of thought it was biblical but didn't really know
Similar to the phoenix, which arises from the ashes, or the jack pine, which needs a forest fire to burn trees down, to get hot enough to open the cones, that reseed the burnt ground.
The imagery that I find most compelling, though, is that of Michael - Micha-el - "Who is like God?"
In "Paradise Lost", Michael the Archangel strikes Lucifer on the right shoulder with his sword, rending him down his right side.
If you recall, in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the T800 strikes the T1000 with a pipe, splitting the T1000 down the right side, which is a nod to "Paradise Lost"
I remember this one guy from Mt. Sinai when I was prelim.
