I'm an MS3 and I'm obsessed with critical care. The only thing I am certain about is that I definitely want to be an intensivist. What are the different ways that one can go into it? IM, anesthesia, surgery, etc. How are they different in terms of what you learn/how you practice/etc?

That's not quite what I was looking for but thanks anyway. In reference to the first response to my post, I guess it was silly for me to think I should ask a question looking for information and expecting anything more than a condescending response

OP, don't be a douche, now. Jdh's response was due to the fact that you asked a question that is answered in the stickies up top. If you bothered to read the FAQ, or even perform a cursory search, your question would have been answered.

You sound mad. Don't be.

You can do a prelim surgery year, then do two years of a combined vascular surgery residency, then transfer to pathology but only repeat the first year, then take two years off to "find yourself", then restart at a combined IM/peds program, drop the peds portion after 3 years, then practice in the community as a workman's comp doc for 4 or 5 years until the weight of the system nearly destroys you, then convince a PD to take you into a gen surg slot, then finish that residency, then do a 2 year CT fellowship then go straight into a 1 year critical care fellowship and bam! You're there.

This is just one of many possible routes.
