I'm wondering how patient care labs are graded at different schools. At Wayne State assignment and the finals are pass/fail. The final is a practical with several stations on everything you have learned. So in the end you probably have about 20 or so grades, and you have to pass everything. You have 1 chance to redo 1 assignment or practical station. If you pass everything with or without having to redo an assignment or practical station you get a B. The only way to get an A is if you pass everything on the first try, and receive "honors" on at least 3 practical stations. So the only way to pass the class is to receive an A or B as I described. Otherwise you fail and cannot go on in the program. This probably sounds confusing. But I'm wondering if this is similar at all to the grading of different schools patient care lab type classes. I don't think this is the right way to grade and I'm wondering how other schools do it.

Thanks in advance.

Ours is just graded on an assignment basis. We do have written exams and practicals. Every semester we have a math competency test, a Standardized Patient Encounter, and a compounding/dispensing practical. They do a weighted grade so that the 3 portions of the final are weighted more heavily, however, you can fail these and still pass the course as long as you do well on the exams and lab throughout the semester. However, if you don't pass you can not go on in the curriculum.
