I was wondering, not to stir up any MD vs CRNA debates, but how does this usually work ? Would the MD or the CRNA inform the patient of how the surgery is going to go, and which(if either) would inform the family of the actions. Thanks in advance.

So is this just a really dumb question, or is there is some other reason for no replys after 44 glances?

Well, im a pre-med student.. dont really know alot about the way things work yet, any info appreciated

Do you mean during the case? At my hospital it's usually the preop nurse who calls the OR to ask. The circulating nurse takes the call, asks the surgeon, then translates whatever he says to something the family would understand and tells the preop nurse. Preop nurse then goes to the waiting room etc.
