pay rate?

I've been hired by a independent compounding pharmacy. I was just wondering how much I should be asking for in terms of pay rate?

I'll be a P2 next year if that makes any difference.

Did they ask you? Usually pharmacies have set pay rate based on your year of schooling. I've had a chain retail and hospital job that both already knew what they were paying me. But if it's an independent then maybe not. It also depends on the area/market. Try to ask other P2 friends what they are getting at their jobs. I think I was making 12 or 12.50/hr in my P2 year if that helps.

They did ask me how much I wanted because this is the first time they hired an intern so they don't have any set pay rate.

I would ask you classmates how much they are getting paid from the various employers in your location. That way you can justify why you are asking for whatever amount you decide. I know it is very area specific. I am in the NW and we get paid a lot more than other areas. I was making ~18 at the end of my P1 year as an intern in a retail chain. Now I am making even more in a hospital so I would definitely ask around for people in your area.

18 in P1, nice! I was at $12/hr P1, $13/hr P2, retail. It was supposed to go to up by $2/hr each year but they had cut backs. This is in Ohio.

Like they said, ask others in your area. It's always different in different locations.

I would say between 13-17 an hour is average for a P2 at least in my area.

in nj as p1 i got $10/hr, p2 $11/hr. p3 12.50/hr, p4 $13.50/hr. this is when pharmacy was booming.. for cvs/pharmacy

whatever, i got a job with them after graduation and now get too much money, more money than they should be paying more for the amount of work i actually do

but yea, im surprised they asked you how much you want.. i would agree with the other poster and say between 13 to 18 would be a good place to start. i would ask for 15/hr. not too greedy, not too cheap. if they want to give you more they can.
