Hello guys, I have an interview at a school thats mostly if not all PBL (LECOM) and just wanted to know your experiences with it.

I like the idea of PBL, I like that it isn't as cut and dry as regular lectures, I actually really like what I read about it, but I have one question.

How structured is it? As far as providing you with information/knowledge needed. I guess I'm a little confused as to how the teaching would work (I know its mostly us teaching ourselves). I know its in a group and assessing different cases and finding solutions through discussion etc.. but as far as the information do they give you a book and chapters you can read on your own that pertain to the case? Or do they just say, heres the case, heres your group, we expect a solution by this date, you can use internet, people, whatever you want, and then let us on our own? For example, do they say "Its about infectious diseases" and then you have the comb through the many diseases on google search and research until you find the right one?

Also if someones gone through a PBL what are your pros and cons about it?

Thanks!

PBL is horrible. Teachers love it cause they don’t have to teach - don’t believe the fluff about how great it is. Once you’re in the thick of it you’ll know how bad it is.
