I wanted to start a thread for folks looking for advice about housing at PCO specifically.

My questions are:

Do many people who attend PCO live in Philadelphia?

What do those who live in Phila think about the commute?

Where NOT to live (Only From people who live there)?

Where TO live (Again, only from people who live there)?

Rank each of the Following from 1-10 (1 Best, 10 Worst):
Wyncote, Colonade, Trilogy, Lynnewood Gardens, Melrose Station,

I agree....I have some of the same questions...other questions I have are...

Does the location that you live in have W/D hookups? (I hate doing laundry in a facility...adds more time)

How is the parking? (is it off street)

How is the neighboorhood?

Do many people who attend PCO live in Philadelphia?
no
What do those who live in Phila think about the commute?
too much traffic and the further south you go the more ghetto
it becomes :S

too far, u'll be sick of commuting so often
Where TO live (Again, only from people who live there)?
close
Rank each of the Following from 1-10 (1 Best, 10 Worst):
Wyncote - 3, awesome place to live, i got screwed with high utility bills...when i say high, would you want to pay 258/ month for 2 months for a 1bedroom that you rarely use heat in????
Colonade - 4, close, cant beat that, save lots of money, most students live here...manor smells and has mice...estate is nice, im movin in there in aug
Trilogy - 1, if you have a car and can get a roomie, live here...slightly expensive for a 1 bedroom, but reasonable for a 2 bedroom
Lynnewood Gardens - 8...my friend lives here and hears gun shots...so if youre into that...go for it
Melrose Station - never heard of it...

Aleem what happened? i thought u were so Anti-Colonade? Now you are moving in?

for those who are staying at estate::
Never get 2nd or 12th floor because u will not get ur own mailbox and you will always have to ask the front desk for ur mail. it shoudnt be a problem but here is the problem.
1. There is a lady at front desk who ask for money whenever u go ask her for mails. She doesnt do it anymore after I told the landlord about it.
2. The front desk people usually give u a weird look whenever u go ask for mail. they are kinda weird. I think it is not just them. I think everyone in Philly is like that because I was treated like that a few times at the post office too. they are not patient at all. Such things never happened to me in California. People in Cali are much nicer than here.

first of all, i never asked for your advice.
second, why you refering to my real name leo?? theres a reason for the usernames...
third, nobody likes you, you are the most negative and most condescending person everyone in our class has met. like i said before, for some reason you have something against canadians and for some reason something against me. not that i really care, but if you have something to say, say it to my face. i dont appreciate your attitude and i dont think people on this website appreciate you offending them, which you do so well every other week.
so back off punk

First of all, i never said I am giving you an advice. I am just asking you why you changed your mind. If you feel offended, i cant help it. No one likes me? sure good for me. I am not offending anyone so stop your claims. I am just giving people friendly advice. I dont hate canadians, I am just teasing my friends. I cannot believe you are very close minded. anyway, if I have something to tell you, I will definitely tell you to your face so dont worry. I just wish you good luck with everything.

For personal reasons I am buying property in PA, but am having a hard time relating to my real estate agent and PA's sense of style (I guess being a Californian and all). I've visited the school, and naturally the east coast is different from the west coast (I lived in VA for 5 years), but if it isn't sanitary issues with the house, then it is the issue of what is considered the "hood" or too "ghetto" of an area. Too me, parts of LA are too "ghetto" or "hood," which I can atest to because my father grew up across from USC and the collesium which is not that nice of the area. I went to school outside of Houston, and even Houston has its rough parts. The recent properties I found were townhomes located in Elkins park less than 3 miles from the school. Is this area the "ghetto" or too "hood" to live in? I've read the warnings about living too close to the clinic, but what about living anywhere in Elkins Park?

Elkins Park, Jenkintown, Abington, Huntingdon Valley, etc are all pretty nice areas.

What about the Melrose Park area? Or living too close to the county line?

Thanks for your help, dude. So by your standards, you would say that Colonade is the best for the money, and then Wyncote if you're willing to spend a little more? How many people that you know live in Wyncote?

Do any students that you know of rent from people who own condos in the area, instead of going through a leasing office? Would you recommend it?

Thanks

Hey anytime dude, but here's the thing, IF you are willing to dish a bit of money out I would live in either Wyncote or Trilogy. Trilogy if you dont mind driving for like 8 min to and from school. If you're like most of us, you'll stop goin to class eventually haha but we still go to school to study. I did get screwed on my utilities for 2 months at Wyncote which is why im moving. But its totally a personal choice of how much you want to spend, how far you want to be from school (and the bar) and if you will have a car. At Wyncote I know about 5 people in my class and another 4-5 that are upperclassmen. As far as the condo's, they are too pricey but I only looked into a few..apartments seem to be the best option in terms of cost and being around PCO students.
Good luck with everything. By the way, I dont come on here that often, so send me a msg and i'll be able to email you back or something.

Hey dbar,

I just got back from Philly, and I signed a 1 yr at Colonade for $875 for 1 bedroom. Pricey, but I gotta tough it out first year. Hopefully I can find a roommate and than switch over, if they'll let me. I also visited Trilogy and Wyncote. Trilogy is really nice. About $800 for studio, but it's too far without car. Wyncote is nice too, but not many PCO people live there (from what i've heard) so I'd rather stick to PCO grounds at Colonade. It's right across the street! Now I'm goina to get killed by $60 internet and $40 phone. Ah..
