Hey,
I just received an email this past Friday to interview this upcoming Saturday at the PCOM-Atlanta campus. Luckily, we have family we can stay with there and it's only a 6 hour drive, but I was very surprised at how last minute this is. Is it a good thing, a bad thing? I'll be going anyways, and I look forward to seeing what they have planned, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar to this. Please private message me if you can so I can see that someone responded to my message....
Thanks.

I also have an interview saturday. I think this is the first or one of the first batches of interviews. They prob gave us a last min date just to make sure that they had all of their campus and other junk in order.

I haven't heard a thing from them just yet. They had said interviews will not happen until January. I wonder what happened?

I got my secondary ffrom there, but I am holding off because they haven't gotten everything in order at the school yet. I am just scared that if something goes wrong and they don't get accredited, what will happen to the class? Also, they said they are mostly taking people from Georgia and the surrounding areas, I am a northerner-- I don't want to waste money if I don't have a chance. But I do have family nearby. I am going to call again to find out more. The website is pretty vague right now.

I wonder how many people will be there? This will be my second interview, first DO. Where have you applied so far? Where did you interview? This should be interesting, PCOM-Atlanta being a new school in all. I'm just going to go over my interview questions from my last MD interview and then some Osteopathic principles. I wonder how many people applied to this school and if we are the first batch. Are we the guinea pigs? Sorry so many questions, what's your opinion on all this?

applied to around 25 schools and have interviewed at UMDNJ(DO), MCG,VCU and have one at MCW in dec. I plan on preparing in a similar fashion

I heard that! Guess that was money wasted :meanie:

I live in Mississippi. I would definitely not worry about not hearing from PCOM-Atlanta yet, for all I know, I may be the guinea pig. You know, since they're a new school and all, although I hope that's not the case.

got an email invitation today - we'll see

Same here! I was invited to interview on December 2. Is this the same date as you?

I may have to move my WVSOM interview until later; it's currently scheduled for Dec 1. I'd much rather go to GA than WV. 😀

We shall see tomorrow, as the day of VCOM judgment is nigh at hand.

My offer was on the 2nd but I am switching mine, probably to the 6th. I just couldn't make it down that Thursday. Monday works better.

Cool. I may have an exam on the 2nd actually, but my professor will work with me on it. I don't have any room left to shift around interviews again. It kinda stinks being the guinea pigs; we don't have anything to prepare with!

just finished my interview at PCOM GA...the school is gonna be great

I still haven't heard anything from PCOM and PCOM-A. I even sent them two emails to confirm that my file was complete at both schools. Ten days later and still no response.

Those checks sure cleared though.

So tell us all about it! How long until the adcom meets?

Let me start and tell you about the day. The interviews were off campus becuase the campus has started construction. You get there at 8 and the dean tells you about the school, accred, and walks you through a layout of the campus. The Dir of Admissions will then speak to you about the admin policies and fin aid. There are about 10 people being interviewed and it is conducted by a osteo phys and an adcom member( dean, dir of admission..). The interview is low stree and everyone has pretty much the same questions (why DO, PCOM, and DR; what are your hobbies, why did you choose your undergrad, and who is your role model) I did have a difficult question which was how would you explain DNA to a 4th grader.

Everything about the campus is state of the art. All the textbooks and lectures are on the computer, the campus is wireless and they have this really cool maniquine(sp?) that you will use for the first two years. The dummy is close to real life, you can measure all the vital signs (hr, bp, ekg) perform procudures (central line, sentesis). It also has a sensor to respond to drugs!!! 😱 This is the only one in GA.

They are in the process of setting up clinical sites. They have atlanta medical center and columbus regional on board and are still working with other hospitals including st joes. If you arent familar with them, Atl Med and St Joes are big hospial in Atlanta. St Joes is known across the country for heart related conditions and Atlanta Medical is prob the second biggest trauma center after the monsterous Grady.

The only thing i would change about the school would be decrease the class time and make it cheaper(32,000). Classes are usually 8-4 😱

Let me know if you have any questions

pratik, did they say how long it was until the adcom meets?

Also, my email said the interview began at 12 noon. Do you know if the interview times vary?

sorry...they said that we should get a letter in 2-4 weeks. If i understand it correctly, they have a different way of doing things in that some decsions are made within a day or two by the interviewer and or dean of the GA campus. If there isnt an agreement (she said most of the time there is agreement) then it goes to the committee in philly.
I dont know if they have different time. I suspect that they may have it at 12 M-F so the doc can see patients in the morning.

So if it is off campus, did he give you a virtual tour on his computer or something?

That must be Phil/Phillis (Patient Simulator)that only a handfull of medical schools in the country have. The fact that they are purchasing this makes me "very impressed" already. I know KCOM has one and DMU want to get one. It costs $500K and is super for the students.

Did they mention how many rotations would be with D.O.s? I know there are several in the area but it would be interesting to know if they are going to be able to arrange a number of D.O.s to rotate with.

Eeks at the cost. But that isn't much different from other places anymore and plus they only have 80 students, right? Classes are 8-4? Really, every day?

Thanks for being willing to answer questions.

My mentoring physician is a D.O. that practices just north east of Atlanta. He is on the Regional D.O. board and he said the school is completely privately funded with around 80 million to get going. I spoke with him on Friday and he said the building purchase was like 20 million. They have big bucks to attract big faculty names as well as put state of the art everything in the building. It should be a very fancy school. They may have a few headaches with their clinical sites at first but they hope to have the money to smooth those things out. I guess 80 X 32K would be another 2.5 million a year. That is certainly a good chunk of change but we'll see what happens.

They had blueprint and layouts of what they expected the school to look like. They had lots of room for expansion. They did not mention anything about DO rotations. They said pretty much everyday will be 8-4. Sometime we may get out around 2-3. The termed he used was patient simulator.

They said the Core Rotations would be in Atlanta, b/c the point of this school is to keep D.O.'s in the South. That is great! The Dean was very nice as was the other guy I interviewed with (name failing me right now). It's nice to know that the high tuition will be worth it.

Let's hope I get in! Sounds like I may have a better shot here than I did at VCOM to begin with, as I'm a SC resident and plan on staying in the South.

biosailgirl, check your PM 🙂

After 2 weeks and 2 emails, PCOM finally said my files were complete today.

Then in the snail mail box I get an interview invite for 12/8 in Philly. I wish it was for Atlanta.

So, when you all say "off-site," do you mean you went to doctor's offices or to a temporary office complex or what do you mean?
Thanx

Temp office complex

Got the invite by email on Wed 11/24 for Dec 2. The email said feel free to change the date. I did, so I'll be seeing the PCOM-A blueprints on Sat 12/11. They offered up four dates so I could pursue the best airfare. Two of which were Saturday's. I really like those, it helps me avoid burning vacation days and the car rentals are waaaay cheaper.

I declined the Philly invite.
