Hey guys- also wondering, anyone applying to PCOM this cycle? I'm applying to the philly campus.

looks like we're applying to some of the same ones. I'm also applying to PCOM but on the fence about whether I should apply to both or just the Philly campus. I need to do some reading on the two and make a decision fast. When are you planning on applying?

I checked online and they've received everything but the application fee- I just sent it in so I'm guessing my app should be complete by Monday- I thought about applying to both too. I don't think it would hurt.

what made you decide to apply just to philly then?

haha simple: I'm from Georgia and I REALLY want to get out. Childish I know, but I really do not want to stay in-state.

Im also going to apply. I too live in Ga and would really like to get out!

haha I'm gonna apply to both and see what happens.

BTW, how long was everyone's personal statement? I can't seem to find the length anywhere and of course when I emailed, no one answered and it's the weekend and no one's going to answer the phone.

thanks!

This may seem like a trivial/dumb question but I'm also applying to PCOM and was wondering if I have to create separate accounts in order to apply to both the Philly and the GA locations?

that's what I did...so I hope so.

Haha thanks...I just want to give myself the most chance of getting in. Has anyone else applied to both schools in the past and would like to share their input? Thanks in advance

Hey guys I'm applying to PCOM Bio med Philly as well. Are we required to submit an actual personal statement or is it just the essay questions they ask for? They ask us "Please state briefly why you are applying to this program, what you expect to gain from the program and what you consider to be your long-term goals." but this couldn't be the personal statement?

Accepted here last week to the Philly campus! I also was accepted to LECOM's post-bac and was wondering if anyone had any advice on which program is better? I have to submit a $500 deposit to PCOM by the 22nd if I want to keep my seat and I'm still waiting back from 2 M.D. schools post-interview and I have another M.D. interview coming up in March. Any insight would be much appreciated!👍

Hey, last year I was in the same exact position. Applied to PCOM and LECOM and got into both. I wanted to go to PCOM since it's about 40 minutes from my home but I decided against it. Reason being that LECOM is "guaranteed" if you get the 3.0 GPA and 23 MCAT. From what I heard from people last year was that PCOM will interview you, but not until March or April. Often by this time you are only fighting for spots on the waitlist. Sure people do get in, but with LECOM essentially saying get a 3.0 and you're in I couldn't turn it down.

By the way I have already received my conditional acceptance at LECOM, as have all of my classmates with the minimum requirements. They really do have the seats saved for you as long as you can maintain what they ask for.

For PCOM I sent my MCAT score directly from AAMC, but for PCOM GA's program, does the scores automatically go there too or do I need to print off the verification form and mail it to Ga?

Hey everyone- I was accepted into GA-PCOM postbac and was wondering if anyone had advice to do well in the program and get into the DO school? Thoughts on MCAT, classes, and living in GA is appreciated. I'm from California so I don't anything about where to live in GA

When did you apply to GA-PCOM?
How did they notify you?
I applied, and I was told 2 weeks ago that they had everything.

Mazda, I can't speak for GA, but I just received my acceptance letter for the biomed program at the Philadelphia campus. They notified me March 5 about having all of the required materials, and I found my letter in the mail today.

3 - 4 weeks seems to be about right for most. Good luck 👍

hey guys, i'm really worried about this, what should i do?...i just received a letter in the mail today saying they have decided to delay a decision to the biomed program (in philly). how likely is it that i'll get in? i'm assuming it means i'm on the wait-list. this is my number one choice because it's not too far from where i live. this is my first time applying to the school and from what i heard, it was easy to get in...apparently not? :scared:

Congratulations!! May I ask you, what is your stats, gpa and scores?

Addis, what are your stats?

my stats are pretty low, 2.75 undergrad gpa, DAT 18 AA/19 TS, i have great LORs and shadowing hrs...i was told that there is a possibilty getting in PCOM (in fact Temple D. School recommended it) but now i feel as though since they put me on the wait-list that there might not be any chance for me to get in.

this is a 2 year program?

It depends on how far you take it. You can do it for one year and earn a "biomedical sciences cert", which [if you perform well] can really help with further professional school applications. Think of it as something to polish up a lower than stellar record... or you can go through the entire two years and earn a MS in one of three specific disciplines.

In regards to what you said about it being an "easy in".. PCOM's biomed program in both Philly and GA are now becoming a more prominent force in the postbac game, and the bar rises with each successive year (just look at their tuition/stats pattern).

You deffinetly aren't shut out of the game, it's just they're going to wait it out and see if some of the other applicants are going to accept their offers first. As to why you were waitlisted: it may be that they found your GPA to be too far below their average to offer an immediate acceptance. Keep your fingers crossed, you've got time.

Thanks for the encouraging words! :xf:

Yeah! Accepted! Complete April 19 and accepted April 30.🙂

Also, does anyone know how much the program costs? I saw how much it is per credit hour. But I can't find the schedule of how many credit hours you take per semester.

Good luck to those applying to PCOM.. It's a challenging program, but it definitely makes you a better student! I'm a current student in the Biomed program at PCOM GA and was definitely challenged this year. Congrats to those that were accepted.. Suwanee and Lawrenceville are where most of the students live. It's best to sign your lease by June because the rent for apartments fluctuates. To give you an idea... I just signed my lease for a 1/1 next year at Century Riverside apartments, where many PCOM students stay for $702 because PCOM students get a discount plus free washer and dryer. In late July/August they will be closer to $800. Also I get $300 for referrals.. so If you use me as a referral I'll give you half of it and it should help for books. Also for your information, The maximum amount of loans you can take out doesn't cover your entire tuition unless if you take out Grad Plus loans... just a heads up!

3 semesters Fall was 9 credits, Winter 11 credits, Spring 9 credits... It comes to about $7,500 each semester

Hey I'm in same situation. I am retaking the MCAT on July 14th that way if I have to I can retake it again (hopefully I don't though) lol

Hey I am looking into those apartments. Thanks for the advice. If I decide to move there I'll contact you for the referral 🙂

Does anyone know about the professors for the GA-Biomed first year program?

Anyone know how big our class will be? Also any current or past students want to give us any information/thoughts on the program?🙂

Is this program the certificate program or a master's program? and that's great to hear!

Has anyone received their packet yet? What is the class schedule?

Does anyone know when the application closes for this cycle?

From what I saw online there is no deadline its rolling admissions until they fill the class

Does anyone know when we will find out how much loans we qualify for? I do not live in GA and I want to start looking at places near the school but I don't know my budget yet.

Cool! You can just private message me on here. Make sure to look around and select whatever apartments you feel is the best for you. They have pretty good prices all around right now. Last year I signed in July and it was definitely higher than it was when I visited in June, so I would advise to sign in June the latest if money is an object of course lol

What are the classes like? Did you have exams every week?

Any link to the app please?

hi guys!

Did you guys apply to other schools? And wat made you choose pcom biomed over other schools that u were accepted at?

I just wish PCOM would offer better stats on how many students interested in going to med school, get accepted from their biomed program. I called the school a few times and they gave me rough estimates= out of average class of 70ish, 30ish "applied" to pcom's DO program, but they couldn't tell me how many ACTUALLY got accepted. wich i find weird, they should keep track:eyebrow:

it would be GREAT if an alumni from pcom's biomed program can share their experience. most of the threads i've been reading up on talk about the application process or acceptance etc...if u know of such a thread with info on expr, plz share!

also, does anyone know if biomeds r taught the same courses as DOs?

msg me if u got accepted at the pa-campus and plan on attending! is there a fb group?

thanks🙂

Varies depending on the class, but most with regular lecturing with powerpoints. I would say an exam every 2-3 weeks in most classes. Classes are challenging, but if you put a lot of effort into it.. you will do well!

determinedmind did you go last year? I saw in previous posts that you were accepted. How was your experience? Did a lot of your classmates get accepted to med school?

Yep. It's a lot of work and dedication in every sense of the word. I definitely seen great overall improvement in myself as a student and my performance. Many individuals did get into professional schools 1st and 2nd year students, but to say I was really focused on everybody else's accomplishment would be a lie. Also many people didn't apply this past cycle. If you think of the application timeline, it's very difficult to take classes and take the MCAT at the same time. Just know you will stress yourself out too much if you focus on others. If you do what you're supposed to do, you will be successful in reaching your goal!
