Hey, can anybody shed some light on what this program is all about? PCOM is my first choice school, but I really don't know anything about the post-bacc program. I got accepted to this program and the Drexel IMS program and I'm trying to weigh out the pros and cons...😀 (i hate resorting to pros and cons lists, everything should be gut instinct).

If PCOM is your first choice for med school, I would probably go there. When i looked into that program, the director said something like 70% of the post-bac students gain acceptance to pcom for the following year DO class. I do not know much about Drexel though.

Just sent out my app for the PCOM one year program...It seems pretty decent to me and I too would say that the recognition amongst faculty is going to be helpful for admission the next year.

I'm going to be commuting from Jersey, and am really concerned about what to do with my days (since classes are at night 3 times per week). The program coordinator said they don't recommend working, but I can't imagine why they would structure the courses this way if not accomodating for a daytime work schedule.

I'll also be applying for the Drexel MSP program.

I'm going to PCOM!!! Just because they let you take Gross Anatomy there while Drexel does not! Am I stupid?

Yep,

The anatomy was definitely one thing that grabbed my attention about the PCOM program. I don't know if it will be Gross Anatomy as just an overview, as described on the last page of the online application...but either way it sounds great.

And from everything I gather, the more exposure to anatomy the better for DO school with all the manipulation and palpation that we'll be learning.

Anyway, good to see someone else in favor of this program 🙂

I just finished the PCOM Biomed. I am a non-trad applicant and PCOM was my first choice so used the program as my pre-med. It basically mirrors the first year of the DO program without going into as much detail. Most of the biomeds that I know that are finishing up their first year of DO say that it is a huge help. Biomed starts with Biochem and Immuno (using the same notepacks and books as the DO class). Second trimester is anatomy and histo. Anatomy uses the DO student's cadavers to actual dissection is limited to the one class cadaver that you will rotate dissecting. You will share a cadaver with 4-5 other students to learn structures during lab and the practical testing is exactly like the DO students get. One minute per station to ID a tagged/pinned/marked structure. Third trimester is neuro, physio, and pharm, again not going into the depth the DO students get but more than enough to weed out those who got it and those who didn't. I don't know anything about the Drexel program I would recommend you do the PCOM program if only for the reason you will get exposure to several profs on the selection committee that you might luck out and get in your interview 😉 . If you maintain at least 3.0 in the program you got a pretty good shot at getting into the DO program. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Good luck, hope to see you next year.

Oh man, this blows! First I think Metallica's not ever coming to Philly again, but now they are! But to see the show, I'll be missing a day of class, is it okay to miss classes? What if I have a test that day???? (October 19th) Having classes at night is definitely not so cool! Are there any "scribe" programs or will I just get notes from a classmate? Anyhow, answer this thread if you are going to PCOM Biomedical Sciences next fall, we'll get to know each other better.....yes *makes a teepee out of fingertips*

Your biochem class will have class notes distributed by your prof. Our class set up a scribe service for the classes that didn't provide notes but that is up to your classmates. The concert should be a couple of weeks before finals so I would guess that you won't have a test. Have fun!
