PCOM Discussion thread 2008-2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
got acceptance letter today. will be a shame if i have to decline their offer. haven't made a decision yet.

Hey congrats! When did you interview?

For those who interviewed, can you tell me what the agenda is like for the day and how early we get out? I have a friend that I would like to meet before I head back to school...

I was verified and released a week ago and am waiting on PCOM.

But what I really want to do is fill out the secondary and send it and my LORs in ahead of time. Don't they send the supplemental to everyone? Is there anything wrong with taking the initiative and sending it in anyway?

Basically the day begins at 9 am. Immediately you will have breakfast with one of their faculties for about an hour. At around 10 pm, you will head back to the admission office and they will interview you one by one for half an hour each. It should last till noon. Then the student will come and give you all a tour, which lasts about 45 to 60 mins. You should be out by 1:30pm and should not be later than 2pm. Good luck 👍

Anyone? I got a itch to scratch.

Yay first interview invite! It's in exactly 2 weeks too. I think it's my top choice as I really liked it when I went to the open house in April. Off to check the interview feedback.....

Anyone else invited to the luncheon on the 5th of December? Its my last day of classes but I'm not going to skip out (on the acceptance luncheon).

I got the same email but I can't go. i'm in arizona so it would be pretty far

I got one today too buddy. I really want to go but it's ridiculous to imagine about spending another 500 bucks again traveling to PCOM from California for a lunch. 😕

Anyone here interviewed, I guess it's yesterday now, on the 6th of November?

AHHHHH!!!!! I just got an interview invite for Nov. 19th! I'm soooo excited 😍

If anyone will be going... its business casual (I e-mailed admissions), there is precedent of no one wearing interview attire. Also, new student binders were mailed last January (1st time) so we have waiting to do.

What is the luncheon for? That's pretty early, I wonder how many people they will have accepted by then. If they let me in I might go to it...I wish they would send the letter. Everyday I'm like, I think I want to ditch work and go check my mail.

Its for accepted students? I don't think there is any other motive. There will be a speaker.

has anyone stayed at the hotels near PCOM? are they really within walking distance n how much of a discount do u get? I'm psyched abt my interview and am also trying to save a few dollars lol. also, is the interview laid back or it depends on ur panel? is it open file? I am also going thru the interview feed back but will appreciate ur feedback, thanx in advance!!!!

For people that were interviewed, what hotels did you stay at? The Hilton and Crowne Plaza are way too expensive.

My interview was very chill. I had a doctor and a 4th year (who by the way was very attractive). It is open file and they reiterate that when you're there. They keep telling you that everything in your file is fair game. Good luck! Sorry I couldn't help about the hotels, I drove up from Maryland the day of.

thanx for ur response! i'm very nervous but ur response puts me at ease. the hotels r very expensive but driving there the same day might not be an option for me.

Don't worry about the hotel. I stayed at Hilton and the price online is $230 before tax, which is crazy for poor kids like us. But when i get to the hotel, I told them that I am a pre-med student having an interview invite from PCOM. Once she knew that I was a student visiting PCOM, she gave me a 50% off discount as a courtesy and i only paid $125 + tax. This is a pretty good deal for a 5 star hotel. If you read your interview invite email carefully, it should say something like "..make sure you tell the hotel that you are coming to visit PCOM..." I remembered that one of the interviewees in my group also got the same discount as me at Hilton.

With regard to location, Hilton is exactly right next to the admission office. And, YES, I mean EXACTLY right next to it. It only takes you less than 5 min of walking. For Crown hotel, it is a little bit further and requires a bit of walking (~10 to 15 min). Also, walking from Crown to PCOM is slightly uphill. Crown hotel is separated from PCOM by an MSNBC office building. Hope this helps. Check google map and you will see how Hilton is right next to the PCOM Rowland Hall.

Thanks for the info, that's really helpful! I am going to stay at the Hilton now. How long is the interview day?

great, 125 +tax is not bad. I think I will settle for that Thanx!

Interview ends around noon. Then the tour lasted 45 min and we ended up leaving around 1 pm to 1:30 pm. If you were flying to PCOM, I took the cab and got to the airport around 2:30 pm. The admission office recommended me to schedule a flight anytime after 4 pm on the same day of the interview.

The same was true for me when I interviewed back in September. While you are at breakfast the interviewers are combing your file. Anything is fair game. I didn't think I'd get asked about a C I had received in one class (and only one class) and it definitely came up. Know your application front to back.

Sadly, I don't know nearly as many people here as I did a year or two ago, but for those who may recognize my call sign,

I'M IN, BABY!!!

Cheers,

I have a question, i've read n heard that PCOM prefers P.C.O.M. will it hurt u if u use PCOM at your interview? cos I'm so accustomed to saying PCOM and it might slip when I'm there. (I know this is probably the least thing I shld be worried abt, but just wondering)

That I never heard of. However, it is true that people at PCOM wants others to refer the school as "PCOM" but not "P-COM". I have no idea why but that's the way it is.

I don't think it will hurt you, but everyone there says PCOM. Here's why:

Pee-See-Ohh-Emm used to be the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy... Pee-See-Ohh. When they added medicine to their name they added -Emm, but kept the rest of the annunciation the same.

This is what Dr. Nicholas told us.

No, it because you didn't go to mitt (M.I.T) or u-cla....

:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:I JUST GOT ACCEPTED!!!!! Interviewed on 10/25ish. They emailed and sent a letter. Roughly 20-30 days after the interview.

I have no clue where I'm going. This process never gets any easier, it just keeps changing.I liked 😀PCOM😀, but I don't like Philly as much. I think I'm going back for a 2nd look at the school.

So...I think I got accepted. I got an email saying congrats on being accepted and inviting me to the Dec. 5th lunch, but I haven't gotten anything in the mail. This went to my junk mail by the way (I have yahoo). So if people are waiting you might want to double check.

I called admissions and no one was there, so I have to call back in an hour or so to find out if this for sure means acceptance. I was like this is going to be pretty harsh if it's a mistake . She's like, I can't help you.

You don't have to call. You are accepted. The letter goes to the address on your AACOMAS. I live close to Philly, so it came today. Congrats.

YEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!

Yeah I called anyways.

I am 100% psyched. #1 choice!

I still havent heard from PCOM. I called today to ask about my app status and she said that all she could tell me was that I was complete in Sept sometime. I thought my stats were pretty good...I have interviewed at Touro-CA, AZCOM and Touro-NY and I have been accepted to Touro-CA so far but I really wanted to go to PCOM! My stats are:
29Q MCAT (10V, 8P, 11B)
3.0 undergrad GPA
2.6 undergrad sci GPA
3.75 Grad Science GPA
work at NIH
do you think Im competitive and should I just be patient? Since she said that the class doesnt fill up until March?

What grad program did you do? It depends on how much weight they give that, which probably depends on the program and where you did it. Your MCAT is fine.

I had a 32S, 3.2 science, over 3.4 overall, I did cell and molecular bio at an excellent school.

I also applied SUPER early. I think things take a little longer if you wait until September to be complete. I don't think hope is lost. I would just be patient, although you're probably going to have to put some deposits down soon.

Process is a bummer for sure. Hang in there.

Hi, I read your blog about the Hilton Hotel and so I just called there and mentioned that I will be interviewing at PCOM. I asked if there was a discount rate, and the lady said she did not see anything. Should I just wait to book a room when I get there? Then maybe thats when they give the discount rate.

I called both hilton and the crown plaza (both numbers were in the email PCOM GAVE US), it looks like u really have to explain things to them cos none of the people i spoke to seem to know what i was talking abt. but u shld say "visiting" not interviewing, hilton will give u a 50% discount but i found crown plaza to be cheaper ($103+tax). and it's $103 if u r visiting and $129 if u r interviewing for crown plaza, so i told them I'm visiting and that's what the email told us to say anyway.

I reserved a room in Hilton online at the regular price first. When I get there, I told the lady at the front desk that PCOM told me to tell you guys that I am here to visit PCOM. Then the lady immediately said "oh, we will offer you a 50% off discount as a courtesy..."

Does anybody know if they revisit files? I was complete back in Aug. and have not heard anything so I am assuming I got passed over for an interview. Will they go back and look at my file again later in the application year? Thanks!!

Did you pay when you booked it and then she refunded you the money or did you pay when you got to the hotel?
