I wish to specialize in pediatric dentistry in the future. I am being accepted by both NYU and Temple. Assume that I will graduated top 5-10% of the class, will I be more competitive if I were a NYU or Temple graduate?

Thank you for your input!

when I interviewed at NYU pedo, a resident said they give courtesy interviews to a group of their own students, so it would help if you wanted to get into NYU pedo I suppose.

It won't matter between the two-- both are well-known and recognized names, it will matter how well you do in school (you should get plenty of interviews if you're within the top 5%, assuming you are not a douchebag or blatantly undesirable in some other way), your recommendations, networking, involvement in other things, etc. Also, I know people from NYU who did not get courtesy interviews, so I wouldn't pick a school based on that fact alone

hahahahha

either school is fine. decide whether or not you want to specialize after your 2nd year.

Temple all the way. Doesnt NYU have a tremendous class size? How would you stand out to your professors when there are about 150 other students? Also NYU just costs too much. It's just too expensive, even if you plan on specializing. Beast your first 2 years, since that' s what pedo programs will see anyways. That's the key to getting into pedo imo.

I've heard NYU sucks. Top 5-10% is more than enough. Why does everyone on SDN think that you have to be very top of your class to have a shot at pursuing more education?

we have the biggest patient pool in the country. you've heard wrong lol

I sure hope so considering how many students you have and the very high cost of attendance. I don't mean sucks in terms of you won't be a good dentist, more as looking at the cost of attendance vs what you get. Also, patient pool size is one of many factors to consider when deciding where to go to school.

Pediatric training sucks at most dental schools in general. You learn most of pediatric dentistry in residency, that's why I recommended the cheapest school.
