Anyone have thoughts or advice on the number of places to interview at to have a really good chance to match?

No thoughts? Anyone know how many people places are interviewing for each position. I thought someone mentioned what their program was doing.

I think we interviewed 6 per match spot last year, but we had many more applications.
It's definitely competitive, though I'm not sure how many go unmatched overall.
I think it was easier without the match. You interviewed at a few places, they gave you a spot or not, often that day. You signed the contract. Done.

per this data:

196 applicants
150 matched
40 unmatched

we interviewed 40 for 6 spots

Just from looking at my interviews it is somewhere between 4-7 interviews per spot. I for one would have liked no match. It is expensive to interview at multiple spots and with the match in October if you are left out in the cold you are now late to finding jobs.
