So I thought I was going to dislike kids/needy adults, so I wrote off peds early in my medical career. I have enjoyed IM/Pulm/CC. Then one of my last rotations 3rd year was peds, and I enjoyed it! mind you the population I saw wasnt as heavy in ADHD kids/over the top parents/cell phone adolescents unlike my colleagues...

Now its time to set up auditions.... my school gives me 2 electives before ranking/match. Im afraid to pursue more peds, disliking it in a different setting, and screwing my chance to audition in adult positions. Any recommendations?? Thanks in advance!

If your scores are average to good, you don't need multiple audition rotations to match into Peds or IM.

If you think you might like Peds, I'd def do an away sub-I in it. If the sub-I turns you away from it, you can match IM with a mandatory sub-I + maybe 1 audition.

For clarity, an audition rotation is generally considered an away for competitive specialties.

A sub-I is where you act as an intern and is usually required by schools for graduation.

If you don't know if you want to do Peds or IM, then do one month of each and secure letters from both. Peds won't care if you don't have all Peds letters (you can use your adult letters, assuming you make it clear you want to do Peds and they direct their letter toward that). You don't have to do any audition rotations for either, because they aren't very competitive fields.
