I think there has been another thread like this, but it doesn't answer my specific question.

Do you guys think that these are an application booster or just a way to see if you like the profession? I don't mind spending the money if it'll help my application (and be totally cool at the same time), but I'm not sure if I would be better served doing one of these programs or spending another week working for a vet. Thoughts??

hey i'm waiting to hear back this cycle, so i can't tell you much about chances at this point. BUT i did do tufts avm the summer after freshman year of college so could tell you a bit about my experience with it. it was super fun, first of all. i also think its actual utility is more for people who are wavering or undecided about if the want to be a vet. i was like 90% at the time and it totally helped confirm that i really wanted to. it exposes you to some jobs vets have that you may not have thought of before (i thought hearing from the lab animal vet was really interesting). but you aren't going to see much you haven't otherwise done before if you have worked with a vet (though shadowing fourth years on rotations was pretty cool). okay, i feel like that was very long-winded, but my final impression is that it probably wont boost you up over applicants with super stats, but if you are perhaps in the middle of the pack and want to stand out a little it could help boost you up over similar applicants. that being said, i hardly even mentioned it on my application because after three years it was barely significant compared to the other things i had done. i hope this helps! (oh and it makes you freaking fall in love with tufts).
