When I called they said the class is full at this point and it looks unlikely there'll be any more movement.

hey Text, did you end up calling the admissions office at any point before being accepted of the WL? If so, who did you speak with/what'd you say? The 3 times I've called I've just experienced a slightly disgruntled secretary who just recorded the fact that I called...but at this peak time I suppose that's to be expected. Thanks in advance for the help.

Nope, never called. Just emailed Ms. Sheffler about some concerns about my summer contact info since I'm going to be out of the country after june 20. Yeah, they might just be getting inundated with calls at this time, and telling everybody "the class is full" as a blanket statement, who really knows. I was originally in the "top of tier 1" group, just fyi, so I don't know if that matters or not either.. Haha, this whole md app process has been kind of confusing and opaque to me from start to finish, as far as I know, I just really lucky 🙂

Oh, and if any of you guys do get in late in the summer (I'll be rooting for you!), I'm probably going to be looking for a roommate for the new condo I'm in, it's pretty slick and ridiculously close to campus.

They said that they were in the process of analyzing their class and would post more information about the usage of their wait-list in the following week (aka this week).

So I did a search for Penn acceptances in mdapps, read through all 32 profiles, and only 3 seem to have been admitted from the WL (2 Being MD/PhD, and the other being me for the MD only). So the bad news is it's a slow year, the good news is that you haven't missed out on the burst of WL movement, it just hasn't happened yet. But I'm optimistic that it'll pick up eventually, maybe they're just a little behind schedule this year.

I found it interesting that the Average GPA for those interviewed and not accepted was actually higher than those accepted: 3.84 vs 3.79, probably caused by the differences in sample sizes, but still. 🙂

Thanks for the info text. Again congrats on your acceptance, it seems like your one of the few to get in off the waitlist at Penn this year.

yeah, same here. I just tried reseting my password and I got the same error with the new password. I guess we just have to wait...

Haha, I did the same thing. Pretty long odds that it's a glitch during their process of switching our status to accepted, eh?

It's up again, with seemingly no change.

Also, the website now says:

" The Class entering in August 2008 has been filled. We do not anticipate using our waitlist at this time. Thank you for your interest in our program."



Wasn't exceedingly interested in Penn compared to JHU, but looks like this is the end of the road for those of us that were waiting on this school.

Mine now says:

Just wondering whether they've simply culled the list and closed the book on some folks. (Not that it will affect me, since I've apparently been culled!)

Hmmm...I seem to remember in their FAQ (It's a link on the WL status page) that they said the pool will be reduced to like 100 sometime in the summer through people removing themselves, and/or committee action. So maybe that's what happened?

ya when I called the admissions office yesterday they said they were going to keep only a portion of their waitlist for the rest of the summer, but even for those that remain it looks pretty bleak.

It probably doesn't look like this means anything at all because they have stated on their website that they aren't going to be using the waitlist since their class is full. They are probably only keeping some people on in the unlikely event that something were to happen and a student couldn't matriculate.

Just checked and I'm out as well, but I was pretty decided on UMass (and its low tuition) anyway. Good luck to those still waiting!

Heh, I'm still holding onto hope for you! I don't want to be the only WL person there next year, you gotta come with me! 🙂

Are you leaning towards Pitt for now though? I know you had a whole bunch of options.
