I will not be wearing a suit, my interview outfit is dressy trouser-style cordouroy pants (black) some cute tops in various colors eg: off white short sleeve turtleneck sweater, +/- a cute, textured blazer-y jacket. It looks very put-together and coordinated but is definitely NOT a suit! I also have a really nice long black overcoat but don't know whether I will wear it to NBC or not.

I saw plenty of people at my ISU interview who were not in formal suits and looked great. A cute shell-top sweater and nice slacks can go a long way!

Now if I could just decide on shoes... I have a pair of wedge-heels, I kinda have to wear a heel if I'm gonna stick with the aforementioned pants b/c they are long and will totally drag in the mud/look awkward if I wear flats... So I'm thinking that these lower heeled wedges will look okay and they are super comfortable to walk around in, gotta try those on when I get home 🙂

General question for everyone... and I know there's a separate thread for this... but is everyone wearing a suit? I have a few that don't really fit perfectly and aren't that nice, but then I have a really nice pair of vera wang trousers and a nice black blouse I could wear... no blazer, no suit. Is that underdressed? It would be with pumps. Gah... I just posted pics on myspace and my best friend said my outfit was better than the suits, but idk... I don't want to be the only one not wearing one...

ETA: I'm interviewing at the Philly campus/VHUP... not New Bolton.

Last year when I interviewed, one of the other girls was wearing a dressy red blouse with nice pants, no blazer/suit, and her interviewers actually commented that it was refreshing to see! 🙂

Shanomong, when I was there I think all but 2 or 3 people were wearing suits. They were wearing some type of pants and shirt thing... sorry I'm bad at matters of fashion.

Also remember it may be cold and we didn't get our coats from the front desk before going on the tour which included brief outdoor excursions.

Haha, no idea what some type of pants and shirt thing is 😀

Maybe I'll see if I can't find a blazer to go with the outfit I already have instead of buying an entirely new suit... and maybe a nice refreshing red blouse 😀

I interviewed in the first set and received a phone call that night. Have not received a witten cofirmation yet. Has anyone ? They said about 2 weeks but am still waiting? I would still like it in writing.

Still waiting. But I do check the mail obsessively every day!

Well there was one "hot" interviewer and one "cold" interviewer. The cold interviewer asked me most of the questions, but they weren't hard at all. Mostly it was "tell me about yourself and, most importantly, how you came to be here today" and "what area of veterinary medicine are you interested in persuing?" and "what did you think of your undergraduate school?" I think the undergrad school question was mostly because I went to a small-ish school thats not real well-known (and its a tier-4 school, which is actually kinda bad)

the "hot" interviewer actually was super laid back. he asked me what instrument i played in high school because i said in my VMCAS that I won a music award in high school, and he said that he had intended to dig up some random trivia also because i had included in my personal statement that I am involved with on-campus trivia bowls.

the hardest question that I got, was a very loaded euthanasia question:

Someone comes to your clinic, jumps out of the car even leaves the engine running and then comes inside with a perfectly healthy dog, hands you $50 and tells you to put the dog to sleep. What do you do?

does anyone know if Penn is done interviewing? It's starting to get late, so I figured they're finishing up.

I hope not, I know it has gone in shifts, but I haven't heard anyone say they got an interview for exotics yet :-/
(Maybe it's just wishful thinking?)

Like StayingHopeful said, Penn interviews in shifts. I am fairly certain that they have only just begun interviewing. I think they go into early April with interview dates...

Either way, there is still a lot of time to go before we know for certain!

At the first round of interviews (less than two weeks ago on 1/16), they mentioned that there would be a whole lot more rounds - I vaguely remember him estimating 8 or so. So keep your hopes up, definitely! It's only the beginning. 🙂

PennVetWanabe and ZooNose, I also got my phone call that weekend saying i was in and am still waiting for a confirmation letter. My interviewer said they would send it out that week and i only live ~1/2 hr away, so I thought i would have it by now.
Now I'm starting to wander if I imagined the phone call ....

Has Penn sent their first round of denials yet? I was denied outright last year and am wondering if I will be this year, too.

There were a couple people, including me, that had expressed an interest in wildlife when I interviewed, but there were people interested in everything else as well. From what I understand, if people are really set on equine or large animal, they have new bolton days for those, but otherwise people are lumped together interest-wise (I think).

I Interviewed on the 30th and was accepted. Anybody else out there?

I have heard nothing from Penn. Do they not send out rejection letters for interviews?

I'm IS and haven't heard anything yet either way :scared:. Found this from last years post however. It was posted Jan 23, 2008. I'm hoping there's not too much variability in the dates this year:

"I talked to the admissions office last week. They said there are the last 3 interview dates in Feb (which seem to be LA) and then there will be interviews on March 21 and 28. She said the only thing they pay attention to on the postcard regarding interest is if you are LA. Any other go with what we are calling SA. Invites go out 3 weeks before the date by email. Just some info straight from Penn."

wait, wait what postcard? Is there something I forgot to mail in??😱 Cause I haven't heard anything from them either, but I got an email saying my app was complete a few months ago. I thought there was just that supplemental form where you put your last 45 gpa and stuff...I never got a postcard, unless my dad accidentally threw it out!

I think by postcard, the above quote means the supplemental app. I assume they call it a postcard because it was so short.

This year, people whose apps were complete got an email, and those whose apps weren't (like hadn't gotten a GRE score) got a postcard.

So no worries, you're not missing anything.

The postcard is referencing an actual postcard that was used every year prior to this one. This year, they changed from "extra" postcard to supplemental app.

Don't worry, as long as you sent in your supplemental app, you are not missing anything!!

Let's hope we all hear soon!

I am OOS, and I talked to them yesterday. I called because I had problems with them getting my GRE scores before, and I was starting to get paranoid that maybe they never got them. They said that they are still in the process of evaluating and not hearing anything at this point doesn't mean anything.

Someone told me a set was mailed out Monday. Did anyone received theirs yet ? This waiting is gettng to me.

Pennvetwanabe-
The subject line of your last post said "acceptance letters" -- are you talking about interview offers or actual acceptances?

I was accepted by phone call 1/24 and just got my acceptance letter!! It is postmarked 2/2. It's a small but fat envelope.

I interviewed and was accepted via phone call on 1/16 and just received my official letter in the mail today.

So, uh... so much for weekly interview invitations? 😛

So I e-mailed UPenn and they e-mailed me back saying that all the interview notifications should be out by the first week of March.

Just wanted to add in: don't be too upset if you don't get a call the next day or that night like a lot of people get when they are accepted. I got no call, and found out when I contacted their office because I wanted to thank my interviewers. Got a letter about 2 weeks after my interview date.

😱

It'll be over soon enough and then you'll be like "why did I pick this torture again?!"

feel free to contact me if you need anything. 🙂

Hey there Spikey,
Mind if I ask when you got the interview email?

Thought I might mention that my interviewer told me that this years class will be 125 students (larger than previous years, with the exception of the HUGE c/o 2012). I know that's info I would've loved to have last year while I was waiting 🙂🙂

Best of luck to everyone!

i know this wasn't addressed to me, but extra info never hurts, and spikey won't mind 😉

when we applied they were still using that archaic form of tree pulp i think they call "paper" invites and acceptances. anyway, i got my invite third week of january, i believe, for a feb 16th interview.

i also got no phone call, and a paper acceptance letter the thursday following my interview. granted, i was living just outside the city at that time.

Does anyone know when the last day of interviews are generally held and also what the current farthest out date of interview invites are? Have they really sent out rejection letters or emails? Thanks.

Emio is right 😱

Just kidding. I luff her 😀

We did not get emails back in our day  I got my interview letter about 2 weeks before the date (I was Feb 23) and the letter I was accepted probably a week or so after the interview date.

i *think* there are five more interview dates (all on fridays). i think its possible that may change, but there are at least three more.

yes, they accept/reject on a weekly basis, but don't worry, mr. keiter is really good with his numbers (ok except for last year, but that truly was an exception), and just because someone doesn't interview until march doesn't mean they don't have a chance.

luff you too spikey!

Lol...thanks for the info!

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone interviewing tomorrow!!! I'm sure I'll see you there! 🙂

P.S. No snow or ice, it's been in the 60's here lately. It's VERY windy today and is supposed to be tomorrow as well, but it's over 40 so it's not an icy wind. Bad news... it is extremely muddy here and I'm sure it will be at New Bolton too. Just a heads up!

I just found out that the only remaining interview date is in late March. They said that the invites for that date should be going out in early March and that those who are not selected for an interview this cycle would be notified at that time as well. :xf:

For those of you who posted about how many interview dates are left, I'm just curious who you got your numbers from? My anxious self can't help but notice that there is a big difference between five and only one. Eeeek! :scared:

Only 1 interview date left, really!?! Man, that's harsh ...someone posted an interview for 2/20 so we know interviews have gone out for that date, but what about 2/27? 🙁

I got my information from an admissions counselor at UPenn so I am pretty sure it is accurate.

He said that people who are not selected for an interview this cycle would be notified in March so how are some people posting that they were rejected from U Penn.

that information was most likely directed to how many interview dates have yet to be invited.

there are interviews tomorrow, next friday, and the friday after that. spring break comes after that, and according to beanjamime, sounds like another date on march 20th. so i was close... four!

Yes that question was directed at how many interview dates are left for which invites have NOT been sent out.

The latest posted interview date on SDN is 2/20 so I'm wondering what's happening with all the other dates. Lurkers maybe.😕

well, the 27th is a food animal day of interviews, and given SDN's population, we might not see those interviewees here at all. nahmean?

Awww, this news is a huge bummer for me as I haven't heard back from Penn yet.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Nobody from my college has gotten an interview invite yet, so we're thinking they're going to try to put us together on the same day. Some other schools did that for us.

Hey there, mind if ask if UPenn is your in-state school? It's my IS so I'm getting nervous, haven't heard anything yet:scared:

Nope, it's not my IS or any of my classmates that I'm thinking of.

I just got a phone call from one of my interviewers telling me that I have been ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never in a million years expected to actually get in to UPenn... today was just amazing, I LOVE the school... And may have some very hard choices to make depending on what happens after my UC Davis interview...

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey future equine Penn-we's!

It was nice to see you all out at NBC today, even though my lab group was in the middle of a fetotomy and we probably smelled... Hope you all had fun and got/get good news soon!
