Dear Penn,

I haven't heard from you in a while and I just wanted to remind you that I still have a crush on you. Do you like me back? Do I still stand some chance with you? Please circle yes or no.

Love,
One of the masses

(I'm going craaazzzyyyy!!!!)

 That's so funny. Thanks for making me laugh. It's nice to see normal people on SDN and not those that seem to have this hidden pompous agenda of trying to show up people and say this and that about their acceptances and when they got them.

Sorry for venting there is one really annoying person on SDN.

I'd like to think that I'm at least somewhat normal, know what is important in life, and maybe even go so far as to say that I think I'm fairly well rounded. I just wish schools and interviewers would appreciate what I have to offer them because I really am a good applicant... at least in my humble opinion.

And no hidden pompous agenda here, that's a PM in itself though...

Yikes! I don't think I noticed anyone doing that. I love SDN because everyone is so laid back and friendly... genuinely nice people here, IMO! 😕

I agree most people here are very nice, but one person is very odd if you look at all their posts. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood. 😳

Haha, I don't think anyone will be held responsible for their moods at this point in the application process! I'm so curious now... I really haven't noticed anyone. I think I will be back later to search them out. 😛

I'm curious, too. And my first thought was "It's not me, is it??"

(If it is, I'm sorry!)

Hahaha ditto. I have been asking for quite a bit of advice lately. That's why I had to ask about it.

Sheesh, you've got us all paranoid! :scared:

Pandacinny, I had the same thought, especially since I melted down yesterday!

This month has just been a hard one; due to lack of business, my work hours were cut from 50 to 8 a week. As the vet put it; 'since your going to vet school....' and I would be less bothered by that if I knew I was! Since she is one of my refs, I also don't feel like I can just quite (especially since she attended the school I want to get in!) Way TOOOOOO much free time to think about vet school!

If I am, I am sorry for annoying anyone.....though I have ALWAYS been odd....hmmmm...

Yo, tpad...

I think you and I were sitting there for the same "hold" conversation.... 😉

And I personally thought that the day at New Bolton was one of the coolest days ever. Y'all did a fantastic job! I met some people interviewing for Food Animal day and told them how awesome our day was, so I set the bar high for you guys! Keep up the good work!

Hey! Did any of you guys see the student dorms at New Bolton? Are they like college dorms w common rooms? Do students doing rotations spend months in the dorms at a time or are they more for two week stints? They weren't in the "Any Give Day" New Bolton vid. God I'm lame 😉

Also, I have to wonder- are all of the girls bathrooms proportionally bigger than the guys? (aka 1:9 stalls ) 😛

OK I wanna know toooooooo.... Same first thought, I hope it's not me! Not that I'm claiming to be normal 😀. But pompous def isn't how I feel... just excited/relieved, which I think is pretty acceptable. We're all kind of in this together, because we all can mostly sympathize with how everyone else feels. I know I get sad and excited for other people as the decisions are rolling in...

Omg and btw that letter to Penn was pretty priceless... didn't see who wrote it but good job 😀

ETA: Beanjamime, assuming it's not me, I think I know who it is...maybe... now I have to go read more posts... unless it's me... lol... paranoia paranoia...

Really? That's so funny! yay Penn LA day!!! I think I might have your secret identity figured out 😎 ....hmmmm.... if you are who I think you might be, you were really nice and I hope your whirlwind interview tour is going well!

Shanomong....you nearly gave me a heart attack. When I just logged on, the first 2 threads I saw had just had posts by you: this one, and the Interview thread (offering congrats for a UF interview).

I was like NOOOO WAAAYYY!!!!! And then I saw that no new news from Penn!

Just wanted to let you know that you scared me half to death!

LOL, I don't get it? what did I make you think?? (it's been a long day, forgive me if it's obvious 😀)

Oh nooo I hope its not me...if it is I am super sorry!

I mean, obviously I am better than all other applicants. Most schools told me that I could get in without applying. I only got rejected by some schools because they knew I was too awesome for their lame programs and they didn't want to lower their acceptance of offer rates. Clearly. 😏

I might have an idea of who it is....if it is who I am thinking off, it is not from this thread, but there was a fantastic comment that made me want to :barf:

Sorry for making you guys paranoid, and no it's not anyone on this thread.

eatpinkpenguins,

No, they didn't show us the dorms. I remember asking where people stayed though while they were up there (since it seems like a long commute from Philly to make every day!) and (I think, I got so much info that day it's hard to remember!) they said that the dorms are reserved for 4th years who are on call. Apparently most other people (like 3rd years doing the LA block) get apartments up around New Bolton or crash on people's couches.

And tpad, yes, that would be me. 😛 I'm off to Minnesota tomorrow...5 degrees there tonight! So glad we both got good news! So did the other member of that discussion, if you remember her. Yay!

And Emio, thanks for your response in the other thread about making a decision. I think ultimately I'm going to end up at Penn but I still feel like I need to wait and hear from my IS option. Who knows, they might make my decision super easy!

Then can we narrow it down to OSU? Or am I completely wrong?? 😀

And seriously... anyone know what was being said before??? Above? What did my posting on those two threads lead kayakman28 to think???

kyakman saw your post in Penn and your post in Interview thinking you got an interview invite (except that we know you were invited, got in and you're super excited ). But at first glance seeing those two threads bold and back to back might have given me a panic attack when I was waiting, so I totally sympathize kayak man!! Oh the forum is so unhealthy sometimes.

Yes! That is so exciting!! Our table was the best 😉

I could not handle 5 degrees, add a zero to that and that was the temp here today (and I was chilly).

Ah, sorry kayakman!! Good luck!! And keep in mind they don't usually invite until 2-3 weeks before so if the interivew is 3/20 then you can breathe a little bit for the next couple of weeks because the invites probably wont be going out that early! Also, last year when I was waiting, I remember they were calling people to interview closer to the interview date, probably from other applicants withdrawing. Some people were called the night before the interview and asked to come in, so until you're told otherwise always assume you're still in the game! 🙂

Does anyone know where I can find Penn stats for the past incoming classes. I've tried looking on their website but cannot find anything. Thanks!

"Generally, those candidates whose applications are successful attain a 577 verbal and a 711 quantitative score on the GRE. A successful applicant’s GPA is normally a 3.5+ overall and a
3.5+ in the sciences."

This is just from AAVMC. It doesn't go into any more detail though.

I was trying to look for something more along the lines of how many they interviewed, how many they accepted. Kind of like what Florida has.

This isn't official, but way back on this thread (2nd page) it says they do about 30 interviews a week for 6-8 weeks... so if that is still accurate they interview 180-240 people for 125 spots (although if you take into account people getting accepted but deciding to go somewhere else they must give out more than 125 acceptances).

HOWEVER-- there are no PHOTOS of the Penn Vet goods!!! So, hahah, probably not the best idea to buy them online unless you're damn sure you want some, no matter what!

And, Emio, that might've been my interview feedback about non-snobby penn-we's 😉 I thought everyone was awesome and very easy to talk to! I was still exhausted after the whole day but never really felt stressed out, props to the student adcoms for being so welcoming and fun to chat with 😀.

i think the Penn bookstore (Barnes and Noble) on Walnut still sells Penn Vet tees. They just say "Penn Veterinary Medicine" but it was the shirt i ran over to get the afternoon i found out i was in. got my whole family some too!

aww, Emio. making us all look so great! 😀

Okay, so I've surpassed all of those statistics... how come I haven't gotten an interview yet!? :scared:

Research/lab animal medicine/small animal.

Could be any of a dozen reasons. There's a lot more than statistics that go into every application.

Other relevant questions: What's your experiencee like? How was your personal statement? Who wrote your recommendations and how were they? What's the applicant pool like this year?

(Or, as someone else said, there could be any number of reasons you didn't get an interview yet 😉)

Haha, I don't want to go into personal details on here, I'm just venting frustration. One of my recs used to be a faculty member/head of dept. at Penn which could either be a good or bad thing, depending on who reads the app... Anyway, for some reason nobody at my undergrad has heard from Penn yet which seems kind of strange-maybe they're scheduling us together like a couple other schools did for interviews? Sorry to be a pain in the butt about this, I'm just venting my general frustration 😛 Feel free to ignore me.

To any of you recent PennWe's who aren't on Facebook or the BB website (c'mon people, get with it!)... a few of us are going out this Sat night to start pre-gaming for the 4 years of drinking together we are about to embark upon. Anyone who's already at Penn or maybe in the area but accepted to an OOS school and looking for a celebratory outlet is welcome to join too 😀. PM me if you're interested 🙂

This may seem like a silly question, but to those of you who received phone calls from Penn, were they from the "215" area code? I missed a call from a pennsylvania area code (not 215) and was just curious if they'd happen to call from something other than 215. Did anyone miss a call, and if so, do they usually leave a message?

Try typing the number in google. If it doesn't come up, just type in "<number> area code" and it'll show you where it's from. 610 is also an area code from this area, but I don't know if it's what the vet school uses.

mooturkey-- my acceptance call came from a 610 or 601 area code (don't remember which). i jumped on it so don't know if they leave messages or not 😉. good luck!

i have to say the Penn Vet FB group is kind of awesome, i'm totally impressed with your social-gathering motivation when it's still february . i haven't made a final decision yet but y'all are making it realllllly hard to even consider other schools! here's hoping i'll be putting a deposit down soon :xf:😀.

I'd love to go, but I'm going to the horse expo in Harrisburg Saturday and won't be back until late. Take a few shots for me!!

Oh ok thanks guys. I did google it (it was a "267" area code, which is close by to the "215" one) so I wasn't sure. Only other thing it could be is a wrong number! Oh well, maybe I'll call from my work phone tomorrow to see if I can see who it is hehe (I hate getting random numbers on my phone, I wish I knew who it was!)

I think my acceptance call came from my interviewers cell phone, it was a 908 area code or something like that. I also answered in less than 2 seconds so idk about messages either 😀

Haha, Starlene, come out anyway! We'll help you decide 😀. Assuming you're old enough to drink. All these youngins are killlliinnnnggggggg me 😛

I hate it too!! But I still refuse to answer numbers I don't know. 267 is also from around here, that's wierd.

I had a strange number call me earlier this year, no message. I googled the area code and it was Fort Collins!!! I got so excited/worried (this was before anyone had heard from Colorado). I called them back and it was a telemarketing service. Argh!!

The world sure is cruel sometimes. lol

Cheers Shanomog but I'm a 5 hour plane ride away 😉! And, don't worry, definitely old enough haha. By a few years!

Oh haha, oops. It's going to be a fun night but not 5 hour plane trip fun...

And I'm not as old as I maybe made myself sound (27), but the 1987 & 1988'ers on the FB group make me fee like I am 😛

This is old info but they do leave a message but don't try other numbers. They called my permanent address not my school address and my parents were out of town for two weeks....

They should (at least back when I interviewed they did) give you a little card at the interview to put your contact info on so you can give them your cell phone number.

215, 267, and 610 are all local area codes. 215 is the city and north. 610 is to the west of the city (including the Kennett Square area where several of the interviewers are from) and 267 is kinda a spillover area code and a lot of people i know have 267 cell phone numbers. Not sure what the Jersey area code is, but its likely that an interviewer or two could have a jersey area code too.

I'm starting to wonder if I missed a call because in the last two months I started getting a lot of sales calls, and some of those area codes (listed above) look familiar. I don't want to call and bug the very busy adcom, so does anyone know when the last group would hear?
Thank you in advance!! 😳

Hi StayingHopeful! I don't think anyone got a call for an interview invite, but instead emails. I think the last interview weekend is at the end of March and invites typically were going out about 2 wks in advance so around the first week of March. Might be wrong, but I think that is what I've heard! Good luck, waiting is not fun! :luck:
