My little birdie tells me that the MSTP has already made admissions decisions and now they're just awaiting the School of Medicine to finish selecting their applicants. So, nothing more to be done now. Just cross your fingers, relax. They have a pretty good track record of getting it right. 🙂

Yeah Skip told me they were working on the decisions last week. I didn't think they were actually working on it, because every other admissions committee tells you they're working on it a month before they do. They start working it when they say the decisions will be sent out, make the decision a week after that when 100 students call them everyday asking about their decision, and send it 3 weeks after they originally told you they would.

BTW, it was a douche-bag move on your part saying that you withdrew from Duke and made room for them without telling those straight MD kids that you're actually MSTP. Considering most of them aren't inquisitive enough to look up your MDapps to realize you're MSTP. But it was pretty funny to me.

I thought they would be the same as Cornell, where the MD class is determined by how many enroll into the MSTP.

That's how it has been every other year. The status page goes offline for a day or so and neurotic pre-allo checkers check it every second until decisions come up and then post all over pre-allo. Others will claim OMG IT IS UP just to troll.

An e-mail will also go out that you can check your status on the website, usually coming slightly after the SDN discovery that they are posted.

Yes, nobody is rejected post-interview. I know I will get asked about this (and I talk about it every year), so I will state it now. Your decisions can be:
Accepted
Top of Tier 1 Waitlist (yes, it will actually say something like this so you will know)
Tier 1 Waitlist
Tier 2 Waitlist

Top of tier 1 come off waitlist first obviously, tier 1 is like the waitlist anywhere else, and tier 2 is ha ha good luck and people rarely come off of it unless it's a real bad admissions year for the school.

Interesting, I feel like there is a story behind this statement. I strongly advise against random hookups or any other questionable alcohol-induced behavior at revisits. There was a kid who got his acceptance rescinded by Duke's MSTP over bad behavior while under the influence.

I don't see how a private hookup could get your acceptance recinded. Getting very drunk and then making racist jokes might (that's the story we heard here on SDN last year after that).

Yes, that is the story I was referring to. I suppose if you don't act like a ***** in front of an admin you're probably fine. I still think it's best to play it safe though.

I wouldn't want to go to any school that didn't what the students to go out and have a good time (as long as they are respectful of other people when they drink). When I drink I'm polite and I don't bother other people, I think thats ok. If school doesn't like that, then I won't go there.

In re-reading that thread the racist comments part is pure speculation, though obviously multiple offensive things had to have been said. I have seen two cases of applicants really misbehaving when interviewing and being rejected as a result. One was to the PhD program I'm in and would have been accepted (very good on paper) had it not been for the half dozen students who marched into the administrative assistant's office the next day to demand he not be admitted. For that person it really was just being a total ***hole, being outright offensive to a number of students, making very inappropriate jokes, etc...

I know of one several years ago who also looked really great on paper, but made a vaguely sexist comment to their interviewer (i.e., my PI). My PI just moved on pretending not to acknowledge it, but sure enough even though he knew his stuff, he was rejected summarily.

haha sorry I shouldn't make fun, but you have to be pretty dumb to get drunk enough to compel a program to rescind your acceptance. I personally didn't drink on any of my interviews because I wanted to prevent even the chance that I would make myself look like an idiot.
