Has anyone received word fron Pennsylvania? I haven't heard any feeback yet (positive or negative)...
They call you the day of the interview (fri) or the next (Sat) if you get in. You'll propbably have to wait untill fri/sat to get your letter of rejection or waitlisting 🙁

One of the students told us when I interviewed that they were interviewing into March. Something about taking a week off here and there? Maybe you should call the school just to clarify.

The letter I received after applying stated that interview invites are sent through March and decisions are made through April. I don't know their exact schedule but I do know that the admissions dept takes some time off during the school's spring break (first 2 weeks of March). I am thinking I will call the admissions office tomorrow and see what they say. I will post any info I get.

I received a letter from Penn a little over a week ago saying I was not chosen to interview this year. I guess if you didn't get that letter, it's still hopeful...

When I went last week they said they were a little more than halfway through interviews and would go through March. There's a conference at Penn next week and then spring break runs the next. I guess they will take those two off before starting up again, so there is certainly still room to hope. 🙂

Thanks everyone for restoring some hope 👍 I also gave them a call and was informed not to worry if a letter hasn't come - some response will be heard by the end of March.

Does anyone know the exact meaning behind the "hold status" upenn mails out? I would figure it was just weightlisted/alternate status but UPENN doesn't create a weightlist untill the end of March aparantly.

I should probably just call them up, but figured I would check here.

You already interviewed, right? My understanding of it is that they interview you and decide not to admit you immediately after interviewing. You are then in hold status and every week when they interview people and make admissions decisions, your name comes up again. You are then compared to the people of that interview session. They keep doing this until all are interviwed and I think you can be admitted anytime off of hold status. I am not sure, but would assume that they then place the remaining hold status people on the waitlist, possibly with a few others.

yeah, I think that sounds about right because UPenn called me up early this week and asked me to interview March 31st, which they said is their last interview day. So I am assuming that in the first week in April, "hold" candidates should begin to find out their status. Good luck!

sounds like they prob aren't interviewing more people then huh?

I got the not so unexpected letter from Penn today letting me know that the admissions committee was "unable to act favorably on my application." I'm slightly disappointed, but it's nice knowing, so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

congrats to the rest of you who got in!

Me too...here's hoping for Davis, eh? 🙂

verbalknit, were you on hold at penn?

I also got the Penn rejection letter. No word from them until today. I did hear something interesting from a friend who's a first-year student at Davis. He applied last year to about 13 different schools including Penn and Davis. He got into multiple schools, and was rejected from Penn late in the game. He called into Penn in the summer to ask what went on with their admissions process and found out that the adcoms have the ability to talk to one another about who's applying to which schools. They asked him, "Did you get into other vet schools?" He replied "Yes", to which they said "Yeah, we figured you would" thus insinuating that they evaluate those candidates who have a good chance of getting to their in-state school and not do much about offering an interview invite.

Now, before I get skewered by everyone, I know that this isn't the case for everyone who got accepted or rejected by Penn. And I'm conjecturing about their admissions strategy. It's just something I heard from a friend who's very good and reliable at getting the inside scoop. I just think that this starts to make more sense seeing as chickenboo, verbal_kint and I all received interviews at Davis, indicating that we were all considered highly by our in-state school. Has anyone heard information regarding communication between adcoms?

wow that's an interesting viewpoint...even though i am in vegas now, I am still considered a california resident and interviewed at davis, but got rejected from penn as well...

I too have heard indirectly from a faculty member at Davis (through my bf, who worked with said faculty member for 4 years) that if you're from CA and Penn thinks you'll get in to Davis, most of the time they won't interview you. I think the words were "don't bother applying to Penn, you won't get in". Said the same was often true for Ohio. Maybe it's an east-coast/west-coast bias? Maybe they just don't want to "waste" the time interviewing you when they think you won't go there?

Again, I know this isn't true 100% of the time--someone in my bf's class got into Penn & Davis--but it does seem to be a pattern with some good evidence and "inside information" to back it up.

i like this theory and I'm running with it until next week. I've talked to a few students at Davis who also didn't get much love from Penn, so it doesn't seem like that big of a stretch.

It does seem a bit odd that chikenboo, snowyegret, hmarie05, and myself all find out on the same day and all got interviewed at Davis. Based on what I've learned from these boards, all of you seemed very qualified and will probably getting nice emails next week. 🙂

Getting rejected from Penn is like getting accepted to Davis!

Oh man! I hope that doesn't work the other way around too! I'm out of state for both Penn and Davis. I got into Penn, but Davis is my first choice. I guess I'll find out next week about Davis... I *think* my interview went okay. Then again, you never know. Anyway, I am quite amused by your speculations! I'll let you know if I get in so we can further our hypothesis, as far as East-coast, West-coast bias! Penn does seem to ask a lot of people where they've gotten in and where they are interviewing (at least, I got that question, and I've heard other people got asked it also). Seems a bit insecure...

i also interviewed at davis earlier this month and received a rejection from penn last week.. i was kind of sore that i didn't get an interview invitation, but after seeing that there might be a pattern of bias, i'm feeling a little less disappointed now.
good luck to all of you that interviewed at davis!

Anybody heard about any other schools and whether they all communicate? I'm still waiting on UGA (in state) and I am on the alternate list at Mich St.. If I get accepted to UGA, the theory may possibly hold true on my end.

I've wondered this...but about Purdue and Ohio State....It really seems that Purdue throws the Ohio resident applications in the trash b/c they assume that Ohio state is your first choice and that you are only applying b/c Purdue is close. I've known some very academically and otherwise qualified applications from Ohio over the years that never even got interviews at Purdue..

To contribute, I am in a unique situation being from Alaska in that I have no state school and no contracts, but I have had multiple acceptances and many offers to interview (perhaps because no single school will give me preference).
I do think there is a smattering of schools that are looking for people unlikely to get accepted elsewhere, but that is not true for all and this is why:
I heard from Cornell early on and was very open with other schools about this, including U. Penn and Tufts.
Both U. Penn and Tufts accepted me even after I told them in the interview that I had been accepted elsewhere.
This didn't work for every school, however. For example I didn't even make the alternate list at Mississippi, a school that should have theoretically been easy for me to get into based on my stats.
Interesting, isn't it?...
