There are jobs out there... Most of them are not even advertised so you have to network to find them. I found out about potential openings by asking around different pharmacies and getting my resume on the RPMs desk. The best way to get a job is by showing the white of your eyes to an RPM .... If they like you, chances are you won't even have to interview.

Are you talking about independents?

Don't confuse those that speak (type?) the loudest as the majority here. No doubt there are issues, the entire economy has issues.

Glad you were able to find a job, now start networking and helping some of these goobers find jobs as well.

Oh my goodness, we are now using the dreaded "n" word on the SDN pharmacy forums. The end is near...

*stocks up on ramen*

Somewhat, but these jobs are everywhere. Best way to find a job: conferences. The whose who of pharmacy are in both ASHP and APhA. Go to your state's conference(s) for both. The people that hire / need talent to implement new ideas meet there. It's a no-brainer.

Even though I've tried using networking for months and I'm still jobless, I do appreciate the idea of going to one of those conferences. So I looked up the Pennsylvania group's.

This is just ridiculous.

A space theme? Really?

Pharmacists are pretty bad when it comes to being creative. You know whoever though of it thought they were really clever because the even is held in "Mars, PA."

Yup. The people in Western PA were on something when they started naming their towns. There is a Moon, PA on the West side of Yinzer, too.

I happen to think my pink panther on a jd is very creative. Wait till you see the updated one.

It should have been a candy bar theme.

Snap, I didn't know this was in a few weeks. I'ma definitely go to that. All of the professors will ask why the hell I STILL haven't graduated yet.

200 to attend? Which students can afford that?

PPA is the way to go - Tacky space shuttle and all 😎

Reading comp - some have it, some don't 🙁

Side note - Swearing my soul away tomorrow, should I be concerned?

I remember being excited when I swore in. Are you prior service? Are you going through a "professional" version of officer bootcamp? I know Navy lawyers, docs, etc, go through OIS instead of OCS. I was told it was kinda cute to see surgeons come in as commanders and wonder why everyone is saluting them.

Prior service Marine Corps... We are direct accessions, so not boot camp (both a pro and a con). We do have a basic course in leadership, which is where I am now.

I wont receive my commission until Monday, but that didn't stop the gate guards from saluting me. I just nodded my head and smiled a "not yet fellas" hahah.

That sounds suspiciously like the way regular people get jobs. I went to pharmacy school because I was promised job offers on graduation without having to look for or apply to said jobs. If that isn't going to be the case, what's the point? How am I supposed to land a job based on my merits and ability to work hard????

You just have to go to OBC then?

lol, I remember seeing docs that wouldn't realize til like 5 minutes into a conversation that someone was standing at attention while talking to them...

BOLC (sometimes called OBLC or OBC) is the extent of my initial training. I am also doing a residency, but it isn't required training.

Saluting from the other side will be strange, but you don't really do it at work anyways. The hospital is a no salute zone.

In Leacock County, to boot! Yeah, I know it's eastern PA but close enough.

This book states that Pennsylvania has more cool town names than any other state, and you can probably guess what their own personal favorite was.

My own personal favorite in that book for the state in which I live? Arrowsmith, Illinois. There are even some people in my town who have that as their name, and there are enough of them that they can call for a pizza and not be accused of making it up.

Isn't RxLea a trekkie? She might be there...😛

If you look, Blueball, PA is a few towns over from Intercourse. One of those terrific ironies that exist in the world...they're so close!

Heard that! If I hear one more person say something about "job saturation" I may scream. I graduated in May and heard over and over again that the area my wife and I plan to live in was "saturated" as far as pharmacy positions go. Between my wife and I, we had nearly 10 job offers. It's okay to be concerned about job security, but nothing to worry yourself sick about.

Haha, I'll be there.
I bet Mars gets a lot of things scheduled there just because of its name.

Also, Licking Township and Beaver Township are close to each other 🙂

On a more serious note, Freedom, Industry and Economy, PA are pretty close together as well.

Yes, I just looked at a map of western PA for 5 minutes.

there's a trailer park outside Lancaster called "Spread Eagle Village"

There just might be a picture somewhere of me and my best friend at about 18 with the sign.
