I think its funny. Every semester, someone comes in the first week of classes, discussing their IB Exams and how well they are prepared for their course based on how well they did in their IB Program, how their teacher prepared them or not for this course. In reality, your course likely has nothing to do with it. Especially upperlevel science courses.

I get it. Its not a bad Ice Breaker. From a sociological perspective, its an identity you could say might spark some conversation.

But lol majority of us didnt go to Oaks in England where they churn out a class of 50 all with 99 percentile scores.

It just makes me chuckle. I think I folded and burned all IB-related material. The Diploma is somewhere in my garage with receipts and coupons.

Yes it was a great experience to add to the list of things you went through. Kind of like getting your wisdom teeth out.

Not trying to spark a debate on IB curriculum, just noticed every semester someone brings it up and uses it as a crutch for conversation :pompous:

Meh. There are better Ice Breakers. Makes me think of people who are still hung up on high school gossip :beat:

It stopped happening to me this year (sophomore year).

I just found it funny that kids with 3's and 4's on AP Bio thought they were bosses and would breeze through all of their classes when in reality they were riding the strug bus.

I have no idea what an IB is lol, AP classes? Whatever, those don't matter come college time you'll see 🙂

What is IB? I never even heard of it a few years after I got out of high school
IB (International Baccalaureate) classes are pretty similar to AP, but are often 2-year courses and are more commonly taught in Europe than in US schools.

Also, OP, you realize you're complaining about people bringing up IB classes...by bringing up IB classes in this forum. Little bit hypocritical, isn't it?

IB was the best decision of my life! I feel like I was better prepared for the MCAT after IB than after taking corresponding college courses. Maybe that only says a lot about how poor my college education was though.

That being said, I've never heard anyone bring up IB while I've been at uni

My IB scores were useless, I went to a community college and had to take Calc again because they didn't accept Math SL.

Oh man, my HS was SOOO into itself and it's AP %ages. If you got a 3 or a 4 you kept that shiz to yourself (only you couldn't because everyone was super nosy and pried everybody's scores out of them). Thankfully I had a bunch of bad middle school grades dragging my HS gpa down, so the valedictorian wannabes didn't worry about me or try to drag me into their drama. Colleges didn't care and I got to avoid the "should I take 5 or 6 AP courses next year? If I take orchestra will the lack of the AP gpa boost keep me from being valedictorian...it only gives a 4.0 for an A!" BS. Win/win.

LoL very true. I just wanted to see if it happened to other people.

I usually go with the same ice breakers. Fat Cats and Organic food. Everyone loves a fat cat. And everyone loves to eat good food. One of these are surely a hook. Higher success rate than the Bend & Snap.

Pretty much sums it up.
The kid that brought up the IB junk in my class a day ago. Shortly after, the professor joked about chem 1 and said "remember atoms dont have colors". Then the kid raises his hand "but what about the absorption spectrum, and how hydrogen has a specific pattern, thats in color ?" ~ Bye Felicia :pigeon:

Happy to see people dont know what it is. For some it helped, for others it did not. I have a friend in grad school who still talks about marching band + being an IB kid as a form of legacy.

Either way, we all had to do the prerequisites again one way or another 😵
