I am very upset 🙁 I don't even have a single interview....Should I still have hope? Or should I start preparing for the next cycle?

I sent in my application in July. Took the DAT in sept 19/20/18. My GPA 3.3/sci 3.1. I applied to 20 schools and got rejected by 13 so far. I have worked as a dental assistant for three years, 100 hrs volunteering, research, and lots of upper div sci classes. :scared::scared::scared: I have not heard anything from USC, NYU, BU, Tufts, UOP, VCU, and Pitt. Please give me some advice!

I was in a similar situation last year with similar stats; got one interview late and the only acceptance so there is hope; lots of it.

and God Forbid if you don't get in this year just apply a lot early next cycle; but key is don't lose hope. its a great profession and its definitely worth the wait.

good luck 👍

yar, i know exactly how u guys are feeling; i know the feeling of uncertainty. but what got me through this time was having faith in the almighty Allah (God) and just knowing that He has a plan for me. i kept telling myself that when the time is right i'll get that packet of admissions and thankfully i got it sooner then i expected.

Anything worth having is worth the wait 🙂.

Instead of sulking try to improve your candidacy for the next cycle. I know it is difficult to take. Continue doing what you have been doing. Try to redo your personal statement now so that it will be ready for next cycle. Start working on new set of recommendations. An extra year is not going to kill you. There are plenty of people who have not gotten in the first time.

I know how you feel. It took me three years to get in, mainly because the first two years I only applied to my in state school. There is technically a little hope left for this year, but if you do have to wait another year it wont kill you. And when I was in your shoes I was told the same thing but didn't believe it until many months later.

im on the same boat as you. my stats are a bit different, 19/19/21, gpa 3.1 and 3.2, and i applied to 9 schools. 100+ volunteer hours, lots of upper level sci, bio ta for 2 years, and president predental for 1 year...4 rejections and 5 schools waiting (no interviews): bu, tufts, ub, nj, and columbia...

all i can say is dont let it get to you. just take a year to emphasize your strengths and re write your personal statement. try to get a masters or stay undergrad (its up to you). so what if you end up going for the class of 2014, average age for dental students is 24 anyway. =)

I turned down an interview for the alternate list at UOP yesterday, so there is hope; though, if I were in your shoes (which I was last year), I would look to improve my application. If you're graduating with your bachelors this year, think about pursuing a masters. Although you don't HAVE to stay in school, some schools are weary about academic inactivity and they have said it outright (LSU? I can't remember which school it was).

Since GPA is really tough to raise, think about improving your DAT scores. I don't have a high GPA either (~3.3), but I took my DATs a second time and achieved a decent score (21/21/21) - because I applied early (May), I received 4 interview invitations, only 2 of which I attended because the last two were after I received my acceptance.

Good luck!

I know detroit-mercy is also wary of academic inactivity. They requested an explanation for academic gaps.
