Breaking it down it seems to fit the prompt:
Significant challenge: family had a period of financial insecurity. (don't get into the stock market & that stuff)
Strategies you employed: began offering your services as a tutor to provide the family with cash for groceries and other necessities, took care of a younger brother to shield him from some of the discussions about the family's financial situation.
What you learned: pulling together as a family during a period of difficulty can result in stronger family ties.
I don't like the phrase "I tried". Be concrete: "I tutored", "I cared for..." Tried is mealy-mouthed.
