Personal statement proofreaders - 2009/2010 admissions cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am still learning to navigate my way around in here, so I'm sorry if i committed a mortal sin by posting in the wrong place. No need to chastise someone for making a mistake lol. geez.

It's just frustrating for us long-time users. He wasn't trying to be mean, so you shouldn't take it too seriously either....

it doesnt matter if you just got on this forum. Arent you applying to pharmacy school, then you must be literate!!:beat:

Hiya, just thought I'd make things go smoother by posting this here:

If you'd like me to proofread your statement, please PM me with your E-mail address, and I'll E-mail you from my UCSF account (just to prove I'm not here to steal your essay!) and then please reply to me by attaching your PS in E-mail.

Thanks very much! =D

Proving yourself to pre-pharmacy students??? Man you are so nice 😛

Can someone explain what type of format is expected for the pharmcas ps? Should it be structured like any other essay with a intro, supporting body paragraphs, and a conclusion? I've read a few medical school ps I found online that dont appear to follow the standard essay format. Any help would be appreciated!

Also willing to read personal statements. Might as well give something back to this forum for all the enjoyment I've gotten out of it.

well if that's the case then you would be able to use correct grammar and punctuation in your sentences. just saying...:eyebrow:

any ideas on how to write a supplementary application for mercer university?

I am wondering if any of the other readers are getting bogged down with reading?...lol. It is truly a tiresome process and at least for me, editing/proofreading take about an hour to an hour and a half per one.

haha I agree - it takes me a good hour and some too. And it is neverending - just when you finish 4, another 5 people PM you -_____-

I am willing to proofread personal statements! So just PM me if interested😀

Just remember that you can always opt out if it's getting to the point where you can't handle it. Thank you all for your help!

+1 👍
add me to the list of proofreaders too; incoming ucsf

?Question?

Im writing my PS right now...and I keep getting stuck on the "long-term/short-term goals". I mean I probably wanna become a hospital or retail pharmacist..but I don't know for sure. I feel like I could just write one sentence about that and then I'm done. Could someone giveme some examples? not specific ones of course but just like...maybe the direction you took it?

Thanks😍

Sorry to do this, but I'm being overwhelmed with requests right now, and I'm going out of town with my mom for about a week, so I won't be around to read statements! So for those I've already E-mailed/contacted, we are set for next weekend. But for others, please direct your requests to others for now, until I post otherwise... thanks! =) Just need to catch up first!

man..thats so selfish....jk xP:meanie:

I've removed your name from the list for now. If you want to resume proofing, just PM me and I will put your name back up.

Hi everyone,

I will no longer be able to proofread statements. For those that have already PMed me, I will finish proofreading your statements so don't worry.

For the rest of you guys - I wish all of you good luck in this application cycle! There are a lot more proofreaders this summer than last. Consider yourselves lucky!

do you guys think that the admissions committee would choose someone who wrote their essay about how good the pay is (which might be the truth in some cases) over someone who chose to do pharmacy out of the passion of helping others? what are your thoughts?

Never.

I actually have time to proofread statements. Pretty bored this summer and game pickings been slim (no starcraft 2 yet 🙁 ). I just signed up recently so if you don't trust me that's fine.

Unfortunately I am going to have to take the same route as Utterdevotion. I can no longer read personal statements. But for those of you that have sent me requests already, I will finish proofreading your personal statements.

I am just too overwhelmed with requests and honestly I am supposed to be enjoying my summer but I feel like I am slaving away with my jobs and adding more work by reading personal statements.

I hope the rest of you appreciate the hard work and dedication a lot of us are putting in voluntarily. We should give a round of applause to all our PS readers. 👍

Good luck with the rest of the application cycle and hope to see you guys in pharmacy school next year!

rycetrix,
I've removed your name from the list. Thank you for all your help; I'm sure the members appreciate it. And thank you to all those who have kindly volunteered to proofread. I hope that when you too need help, there will be someone willing to give it, just as you have.

Thank you, wonderful proofreaders! 🙂 Especially laketica and rycetrix, as they were kind enough to read mine even when swamped with other requests!

oh man... for SURE about starcraft 2... i signed up for the beta, but i dunno, don't have high hopes to get it... *twiddles thumbs...*

i'm back! and still whittling away on previous requests... for second-reads and supplemental apps, i'd have to say "probably not" at this point, just to give everyone a chance! i'd recommend perhaps sending one draft to one proofreader, then the 2nd draft to a 2nd proofreader on the list, so you don't "use up" all the proofreaders on the same draft? =D

I know this is the wrong thead but this is the only one that seems to still have people awake and responding

My organic chem professor at my University is not able to write my letter of rec she just informed me today. ( although she could have told me this much earlier I asked her in may)

would a letter of rec from my a&p professor from a CC who is thier life science director still be considered a good letter?

School is starting soon, so I will no longer be able to proofread any new requests. For the three that have PMed me last week, I will complete yours within the week.

One of the reasons I did proofreading this summer is because I felt how valuable the service was to me, when I needed it. I encourage anyone who has been proofread this year to return next year, when you have been accepted, and do the community a favor by becoming a proofreader.

Hi!
Is anyone available to proofread my PS? I know school is starting back up again but it would be a huge help to get a better idea of how I'm doing with it!
Thanks!

Look at the first post in this thread and PM the people listed.

To everyone who has sent me a PS who I haven't replied to yet...I apologize, I've been incredibly busy with moving and getting situated and everything. It was a very hectic summer. I will read your statements, and I will critique them. However, for anyone who has not yet sent me a statement, you'd be better off sending them to somebody else on the list. I didn't quite end up having the free time I thought I would as of late. Hopefully next year I can set a better system up. Until then, medicalcpa, if you could nix my name from the list, I'd appreciate it.

Done.

I just have a quick question about a personal statement in general. I can usually figure out a way to word things and get my point across correctly, but I'm having a really hard time.

I'm a re-applicant (couldn't finish the prereqs in time last year) so I need to figure out a way to work this into my statement without eating myself into a hole.

Basically, I want to say how taking a year off gave me a great opportunity to volunteer my time, get pharmacy experience to cement my decision to become a pharmacist, pursue a master's degree, join a college athletic team, etc, without sounding like "yeah it was a good thing I didn't go last year because I'm more ready now". I obviously want to show it as a positive thing that helped me to improve my application, but I don't want to imply that I wasn't ready last year either. I was accepted to a school, and I truly felt like I was 100% ready to handle it minus the prerequisite issue, but I'm still a re-applicant nonetheless so I need help describing this in my essay! Any suggestions?

I have started classes and i am beginning to be overwhelmed by my schedule, so i will appreciate it if my name could also be removed from the list. I will reply those who have sent me their PS already. It has been great working with everyone and i wish you all the very best in the application cycle!!!👍

hey guys,

i have a question about the format of the personal statement.
pharmcas said that the personal statement should be in block of text form...but what if you want to show different paragraphs? i cant indent or anything.

Before I contact any of the listed, available proofreaders, I wanted to see if it would be possible to have my responses to two essay questions on my secondary app proofread? I know this thread is for personal statements, but would it be ok to have my essays reviewed and critiqued? Please let me know so that I can proceed accordingly... thanks! 🙂

Does anyone from the approved list of proof readers have any time to proof read or tell me what they think of the intro part of my PS. PM me please because I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if one of you can take a look at it and tell me if have too much personal info or not. Thanks

Hey,

if you would like someone to read your statement, I'd love to help you out!

let me know..

Hi, can you please help me with my statement? let me know how can i send you my personal statement. Also i really do not know how to answer this question can you please give me some suggestions thanks:

The vision of pacific univerity school of pharmacy is to graduate pharmaceutical care providers who have the knowledge and skills to e agents of change and advance innovative approaches to improving public health and care to diverse populations in their communities. In your own words, please describe how, as a pharmacist, you are going to support pacific's vision and advance of the field of pharmacy

Can any of the proofreaders look over my P.S. by this Thurs? I realize its a bit soon, but I need to submit my app this Fri & just got my P.S. done recently. IF anyone on the above list is able to look over it & suggest some changes, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Yeah make sure you only let people who are accepted or pharm students look at your essay. Someone could end up taking your ideas and using them. If you still need more people to look at it I'd give it a glance.

hi, that is exactly what i am afraid of, i do not want someone to steal my statement. who should i be sending it to for proofreading? please email me at ....[/EMAIL]
