Just wondering if you guys have a good website, or form that is free and readily available to test the big 5 personality traits. I'm on outpatient and had many patients ask about this and don't have anywhere to direct them. From my google searches multiple come up, but there is always a cost or some catch. I'm also unsure how complete they are as some seem shorter than others.

I haven't received a form or study from attending or other resident so your assistance would be appreciated. Thank you!

I don't think there's one validated test to determine the big 5 personality traits/five factor model, but the NEO is probably the most used in studies. I don't tend to use these in clinical practice though unless a patient is really self-directed and wants to know. It doesn't provide very many actionable items though.

NEO Personality Inventory: NEO Personality Inventory-3 | NEO-PI-3

International Personality Item Pool: IPIP NEO-PI, Introductory Information

Big Five Inventory: https://fetzer.org/sites/default/fi...selfmeasures/Personality-BigFiveInventory.pdf

Eysenck's Personality Inventory: Eysenck’s Personality Inventory (EPI) (Extroversion/Introversion)

NovoPsych has some on their website too and it's free for a certain number of tests. You can send it directly to patients from that website.

I'm a much bigger fan of the Young Schema Questionnaire to look at early maladaptive schemas so that patients can learn what their core emotional (unmet) needs are and whether their coping style for that particular schema is surrendering, avoidance, or overcompensation. This way they can actually recognize and do something about their personality patterns.

Do you have a link for the Schema Questionnaire? That would be immensely useful.

Personally...I would not get involved with this. I'm not sure how it would help us as the psychiatrist and I could see it harming. Assessment and utilization of validated personality inventories is something that people (not psychiatrists generally) go through extended doctoral and postdoctoral training for.
