So i decided to drop an impacted class and made the decision to drop during about week 5..of course being a lazy college kid i did nothing about it til 9th week where i went to get a petition. surpise surpise, my petition got denied. I did no work for that class since the week i decided to drop and obviously am now failing. *** do i do???

Are you serious? This is completely your fault and there's not much any of us or you can do about it. Since you can't drop, you'll have to take the F and deal with the far-reaching consequences of your laziness...

i should add...that it doesnt make a difference whether u drop week 2 or week 8, it just has to be before the final

Wait I'm confused. Didn't you say the drop deadline has already passed?

Well, I gotta agree with Apok man, you need to take more responsibility with you academics. I'm sure you know as well as we do that there's nothing we can say that will get you out of this situation. Just take it as a learning step, a harsh one at that, and go on and try to make it up. It's gonna count as a 0.0, sucks but that's life. Next time if you're gonna drop make sure you do it asap then. Learn from it, forget about it, move on and get your **** together.

since its an impacted class you have to file a petition to drop. this petition has to be turned in any time weeks 2 through 10.

Like others said, this gotta suck. But I'm sure you will learn from it.

I'm curious, why would they not allow you to drop a class (why do they care?) and how often does something like this actually happen?

cuz at my school they have to put you through trouble and make your life more difficult if you want something to get done

i mean its just retarted..if i want to drop a class why cant i?
i am switching majors, so this class is useless to me now. why are they gonan force me to take it?
since its impaccted ( a term they use to descripe classes in high demand, but this class wasn't even half full) you have to petition to drop it

Yeah, it seems ridiculous to me, but I was wondering what a school's rationale would be for not allowing a student to drop.

My school also has a 5th week deadline. Some classes have 2-week deadline. It sucks.

Has anyone heard of the FAIL blog?

see if u can audit it. in my school i can switch from credit to audit untill may 1st lmao...which is like basically right before finals? 🙂

That sucks! but I agree with ApoK. As I see you're pre-med, get serious man....it's going to get even harder...

Why didn't you drop the class during Drop/Add? It boils down to taking responsibility. You need to take responsibility for this. Laziness isn't an excuse, unfortunately.

Just get a med student to disimpact the class for you. That's why we're here.

The reason you can't drop is because the class is in high demand. The school does not want you to take up a spot in a class only to drop 8 weeks in when someone who wanted to take the class could not because you took the spot. You wanted to be in the class and you are now in the class, you made your bed.

Op, don't worry about it. From the way you write on here, I doubt you would make it into medical school regardless of this one grade. Sorry, truth hurts.

You bend over and take it.

Gosh, guys, you're not being nice.

OP, here's what you do. First, go to the higher-ups, and tell them how unfair it is. Remind them that you're pre-med a LOT, so that they can be sure they know they're going to be responsible for the loss of what must be a brilliant future doctor. In addition, you will make them feel inferior since you'll be making twice their salary.

If they don't cave, don't give in. Sit in the middle of the floor and refuse to move until they let you drop the class. If that still doesn't work, start holding you breath.

If at this point security is on the way, no worries. Just make sure to call your parents and tell them what happened, so they can talk to the dean. Remember that mommy knows best, and when she fixes your boo boo, she can come home, make you some warm milk, and rub your feet until you drift peacefully back into your dreamworld, where you seem to be most comfortable.

If all else fails, you can man up and take responsibility for your actions. This isn't about fair. It wouldn't be about fair even if they didn't let you drop after the first day. The best you can do is work your ass off and salvage whatever you can out of that grade, regardless of how "stupid," "useless," or "******ed" the class is. It's YOUR GPA, and whatever happens to it is YOUR responsibility.

Dude it's college.. Its sort of sad that he would have to go to his MOM to fix his mistake. Honestly, not to sound too harsh, but its sort of your fault. You should of dropped earlier and not be lazy [like you yourself said], or you should have kept working in the class until they let you drop the class.

On that note, fix the problem yourself; I highly doubt your mother will be able to do anything for you... Make an appointment with your adviser NOW.. like as soon as you read this.. and make a personal appointment where you can talk with him/her... Explain to them in person what happened, and tell them that it'll affect you greatly..

You can withdrawl from the whole quarter but then your other two grades wont show. You really need too give them a GOOD excuse, dont tell them that you were lazy and thought you were going to change majors so you gave up on the class.

Are you serious?

It's definitely not his fault. It's not sad how he should call his mommy to fix this situation. How else do you think the rest of us got into medical school?

You COMPLETELY missed my sarcasm.

Gosh, there isn't anything more annoying than someone taking your sarcastic statement seriously...

I was going to say that putting "/sarcastic rant" is unnecessary in obviously sarcastic posts, but then ParthVader dropped by and showed me why it was necessary. I stand corrected.

Sarcasm does not work in text -.-, and since its SDN.. I just assumed it was serious, since a joke on these forums appears once in a decade.

Also, Yah I don't pay full attention when reading forums :ninja:

I kind of hope that his post was a sarcastic response, otherwise it is just sad.

The whole, "sit in the middle of the floor and hold your breath till you get your way" didn't clue you guys in?

Reading comprehension is key.

I was talking about parthvader, I got that you where being sarcastic, I thought everyone did.

Go to your doctor and tell them you feel overwhelmed and need to drop a class. Get a note. Bring it in to the registrar. They are not allowed to ask questions and you will be able to drop the class.

If you do this...ask yourself...are you really med school material?

Agreed, but sometimes things happen. One of my friends did this as an undergrad and she's a fourth year at Case now...has done pretty well there too. S#%t happens.

Yikes, so you stuck around in a class you intended to drop for an entire month? And on top of that, you did no work or studying for that course for an entire month? Gosh, if there's anything you should take from this experience, it's not even to stop being lazy; it's to end the presumptuousness, and not to expect "free" passes when things go awry. Own up to your mistakes. We're all lazy, but a deadline is a deadline, and even RESPONSIBLE (albeit lazy) individuals meet deadlines. My sincere advice: Work hard to pull that failing grade to a passing one (preferably to a grade of at least a B). Even a C would be OK at this point, though. Much better than a F.

Go to your doctor and tell them you feel overwhelmed and need to drop a class. Get a note. Bring it in to the registrar. They are not allowed to ask questions and you will be able to drop the class.

Again, note the sarcasm. 😎

VR is going to be quite challenging for that poster...

It's sad when you need to tag that.

Instead of making a mockery of your situation, here's my opinion:

Try harder from now on. There may be some unknown/undisclosed reason behind why you were 'lazy' (A.D.D.?), but in any case, now is the time to address it. You may want to start looking into schools in the Caribbean- I heard some of them don't have cutoff GPAs lol

Also, do you have a lawyer? If push comes to shove, you may need to involve one in petitioning.

If this doesn't work, I'd recommend going on Oprah or nuclear warfare.

You guys are seriously ridiculous. I hope you all experience this at some point in your undergrad careers, so you can be helpful and offer words of advice to a fellow premed instead of making a mockery of my situation.

What were you expecting, sympathy? This problem is entirely of your own creation.

Here are my words of advice: you made a bonehead mistake, and you can't do anything to change it now. Accept the consequence of your actions -- you will likely fail the class. One F on your transcript is not a death sentence. Learn from your error and don't do it again.

Woah, 250,000 mg? That's quite a large dose 😀

Also, I agree with virusgirl. Most people won't experience this situation during their undergrad careers because we wouldn't have been too lazy to drop a class that we were failing. Learn from your mistake and move on.
