That final thought makes me doubt that the the author of that statement has ever practiced pharmacy. It appears that PharmacyWeek has a troll on their message board. It's too bad that people have to be that way.

I don't want to sound like a "hater" but I've come across a lot of pharmacists that regret going into pharmacy. Sure, it's nice that you like looking at the bright side of thing buts you have to aknowledge that some people simply aren't happy practicing pharmacy. But I think that most people that end up not liking pharmacy are the people that didn't get accepted into med school or those that chose pharmacy because it's shorter.

That is an old post. We never really figured out who exactly "Slim Shady" or any of his other identities were. "Slaver" was his most infamous ID. He also faked his own death only to return a few weeks later, posted as his mourning wife, and changed his story more times then we could count. I do beleive he was a pharmacist that for some reason or another decided to leave the profession (forceably removed or not, I do not know). He did always provide an interesting read and sure knew how to stir the pot at Pharmacyweek.

On a side not, you do have to accept that pharmacy is not all roses. I, for one, have considered changing professions at times. But, I have found my place as a hospital clinical pharmacist, but, if I didn't take the risk to try something different I would still be stuck in a retail position that I couldn't stand.

I'm the opposite in that I like retail but don't care for the hospital side of things. It's all about personal preference and niches. 🙂

Pharm.D. applicants are asked about their interests after graduation for a reason. I hope that anyone who is applying to any professional program knows has taken the time to research, job shadow or whatever else they need to do to ensure that they know what they are getting into and are ready to make a lifetime committment to their chosen profession. No profession can claim to be the end all be all for everyone and pharmacy is no exception.

Hear hear. And Slaver found his niche in inciting ire on internet pharmacy forums. I'm sure he was a much better troll than pharmacist.

Pharmacy is not for everyone and those who have these feelings should steer clear for the following reasons:
1. I don't want to study or work with you.
2. You're doing a disgrace to yourself and the profession.
3. Contrary to the belief of some, the money is not all that great. Yes, it's
better than most jobs, especially considering that it's not terrible work,
stressful yes, terrible no. But, I have lived in a household that earned
above what most pharmacists make most of my life, and while I have
had a good life it's not the life of luxury some imagine for themselves.
The most important thing isn't money, it's quality of life, time with loved
ones, satisfaction, and being able to enjoy life. My advice, don't go into
pharmacy for the money, play the lottery instead, your chances of getting
"rich" financially speaking will be about the same.
4. Pharmacy is a profession about people and if you are constantly
dissatisfied you will develop a bad attitude and your relationships with
patients and fellow healthcare workers will be sacrificed and your job will
be that much more difficult.
5. Finally, don't go into the profession of pharmacy knowing that you want to
later return to medical, dental, law, or any other school and completely
leave the field of pharmacy. Not only, does this take a spot away from
someone else, it makes the field look bad, and while we are in a shortage
like we are we need to boost the image of pharmacy as a practice and
profession.

Sorry about the rant it was late and I couln't sleep. And please don't think I am trying to offend anyone. I am simply stating my opinions, that's right folks these are just opinions.
