I spend a few min a week warding off drug reps. They are the friendliest bunch on the phone..always eager to come in and show us things and give us gifts etc. I'm alway cordial in telling them screw off. We have a 100% ban on drug reps in the hospital.

Healthcare practitioners practice with best interest at heart for patients, at least I like to think. And if we didn't, and cause harm, it's our license on the line.

But what about drug reps? They pretend to care about our patients. Do they? Or are they just concerned with the product volume sale and the bonus?

I like to think I have a better grasp on different classes of drugs and disease state being treated. I really don't believe a fresh college grad with a marketing degree who looks pretty can provide anything of use..

That would be for detailing of Ardeparin (Nomiflo) and its sustained anticogulant effect - anti Xa activity post 12 hours.

Take the breakfast then run like heck.

^ haha, actually, I was wrong, glaxo provided the breakfast. In fact the speaker wasnt associated with glaxo, some rep just tagged along. The speaker talked about Lepirudin, Argatroban, Bivalirudin and when he got to glaxo's product, fondaparinux, he insultingly cracked a few jokes about the way they tested it..... halfway through, someone mentioned that glaxo provided the breakfast and their rep was in the same room.

Yup, the speaker is an MSL (medical science liaison) on Glaxo's payroll.
