Pharmacist Salary Thread

Be careful when you say "only has his bachelors". Graduating with a pharmd does not equal a RPh with years of experience.

I'm definitely not downplaying any pharmacist with their bachelors, when I said "only" it was in reference to ChemistI's implied assumption that a pharmacy manager would have to have PharmD. And I quote: "besides experience, and a pharmD degree, what does one need in order to become a pharmacy manager?"

Let me add that I only have the utmost respect for my pharmacy manager, he's awesome!

okay, we are all gonna have a PharmD. well, i am..and you might too if you stop thinking so much about money and more about what the job really is. PharmD means nothing. all schools offer it. the only way you can set your self apart is by doing a residency.

Bottom line. No matter where you live, or which specific area of pharmacy you work in; you will have excellent job security (provided you don't do something stupid and lose your license)👍, you will make more than probably 7-8 out of every 10 people you meet👍, you will have flexible hours👍, you will be respected for you expertise:bow: and the demand for your services, therefore your pay, will continue to increase for the foreseeable future.:clap:

would getting an MBA benefit a person who's trying to become a manager after earning their pharmD degree?

In retail? Probably not. It might help if your are looking to get into corporate supervision (DM, Regional VP, etc.) with a chain, but at that point there is so much more that goes into qualifying for the position that an MBA would just be icing on the cake. It could benefit you if you are looking to start up an independent, some tried and true business strategy never hurts.

What is the initial salary a pharmacist makes in his/her first year? 5 cookies to the person who gives a valid answer.

An intern at my pharmacy got offered a job for 150k a year. He has to move 2 hrs away but still. This is in NY btw

Does anyone know if good grades in pharmacy school give you more negotiating power once you start to look for work?

No doubt. I heard if your gpa is below 3.0 CVS won't give you more than 40 $/h. On the other hand, if your gpa is 3.8 - 3.9 - you are eligible for at least 50 $/h. So yeah, study hard.

4.0 = $64.35/hr
3.75 = $59.88/hr
3.5 = $54.73/hr
3.25 = $50.74/hr
3.0 = 48.37/hr

Below 3.0... we don't hire them.

Just curious, how would you know if u r a non-student?

I don't beilve so..Iam 4th year now..with GPA of 3.8 and got offers similar to all my classmates who are below 3.0 or around 3.0...They don't look at GPA!!! What they care about is your liscence...and each area has a pre-set salary per hour and you gonna get that..wat you can negotiate is signing bonus

Also, shouldn't the quality of the school make a difference? Doesn't a UCSF or UCSD graduate get $30K more than an average graduate? The two California schools are the best and probably the hardest to get into. So I think it is only fair that someone gets more from coming from a harder and better ranked school.

USC grad = $175,000
UCSF grad= $167,000
UCSD grad = $164,000..

And everyone else...lower..

Oh gosh....I hope you're kidding.

And the two Cali schools? Last I heard there were more than that.

There is only one CA school that matters. It has a football team.. I'm not going to tell you who it is....but I think you know the school very well...

that's the beauty of the Pharm.D. They're all the same once you've got it. Sorry!

Are you indirectly disputing what I'm saying?? 😱

Oh yeah?? I don't hire OU grads! :meanie:

My lawyer says otherwise.

I was thinking while brushing my teeth this morning, I betcha they'd hire me to help with the cluster that is MRMC.

Whatcha gonna do if he leaves you for the Falcons?

I'll thank him for what he has done for us...and wish him good luck in the NFL...... Nothing lasts forever and I'm more than happy with the success he brought us. The memories will last a lifetime.

MRMC wasn't always that bad... in fact.. it was a key account that propelled 2 of my buddies. The reason for clutter is due to new owners.

As long as I don't discriminate based on sex, religion, and race..I think I can decided to not hire you cuz you be sooner..:meanie:

Hey... but I bet my sooner buddy DOP may hire you in my area..

Would you rather see me act like WVU and wish death upon Pete? I love the guy...

This is true. Epic would never wish cancer/running over on his mancrush. What was I thinking...

But 2 new coaches for you in one offseason? Would be hard to handle...

I doubt Petey's going anywhere though.

Wade Wilson on the other hand will be out the door if they lose this weekend...

What type of Pharmacy?. How big is the chain you work for?

Also, have any of you heard anything like these rumors I have heard?

Big chain in offering $100k sign on bonus for 3 years in Alaska (heard from pharmacist working for the chain)

3 year contracts for $750k + in Alaska?(heard from a friend of a freind)

AK is starting to look pretty good🙄

Cowboys cheeleaders on my flight!!

Life be good yo!

Excuse my typo

Considering the significant increases in pharmacist salaries over the years and the fact that current starting salaries are between $95,000-$100,000, what is the projected future salary of a pharmacist in the decade to come (2010s)? Do you think salaries will eventually hit a wall or continue to increase, and if so, by how much? The reason I ask is because if I get into pharmacy school, I will be graduating in 2012 with at least $100,000 in debt and the higher the pay, the better so I can pay off student loans as soon as possible. I appreciate any input. 🙂

In 15-20 years the "baby-boomer" generation will be retiring, I am sure we all gonna be in demand!🙂

i predict a glut of pharmacists by about 2014 when all these random private schools that opened programs will be graduating students. Salaries will remain flat, keeping pace with inflation, while high desirability areas (southern california, etc...) not hiring anyone at all. This latter one is already happening.

So yeah...I don't expect the gravy train to continue by the time I graduate. But this is good...in my opinion. All the crap pharmacists who know a lot but can't communicate properly will be out of a job. I've worked with entirely too many of these pharmacists at work who are still on the job because of the "lack of supply" thing.
