Anxiolytics

BuSpirONE - 5HT1A (Serotonin receptor) agonist

BuspirONE - 5HT1A (serotonin receptor) agonist as A is alphabet letter, number ONE

Antithrombotics

DaBIgatran = FIIa = thrombin (bi = 2)

DaltePARIN is same as enoXAPARIN = both are low molecular weight heparins i.e. they act on FXa

RivaroXAban = Xa inhibitor

Warfarin inhibits 1972

Xa (10)
IXa (9)
VIIa (7)
IIa (thrombin) (2)



Antiplatelets

CloPidogrel and Prasugrel = adP receptor blockers

aBciximaB has two Bs so GpIIb / IIIa inhibitor

tirofiBAn = GPIIB/IIIA inhibitor

Antivirals

NNRTI’s don’t NEED to be phosphorylated and other HIV drugs mnemonics
  • ZidoNevirapine
  • Efavirenz
  • Etravirine
  • Delavirdine
EnFUvirtide - binds gpForty1 (gp41) blocking FUsion

MaraviROC - CCR (Creedence Clearwater Revival) are a ROCk band so maraviroc is a CCR5 blocker

Saquinivir -
Never tease a pro-tease.
Drugs that end in "-navir" are Protease Inhibitors

Zidovudine -
Have you dined with my nuclear family?
Drugs that end in "-vudine" are Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors

Anticonvulsants

LeVtirAcetAm = SV2A (as V then 2A's)

PhENYtoin = ENY except absence seizures (UK)

TIAGabine = GAT-1 inhibito

PerAMPAnel is for Partial seizures (UK) and blocks AMPA receptors (obviously)

Antidepressants

MertAzApine = α2 antagonist (as 2 a's)
MertazApiNe = α2 ANtagonist

Cilastatin - Cilantro
Meropenem - Mercedes
Doripenem - Dodge Car
Ertapenem - Ergonomics (of a Car)
