Pharmacy Students that work for Walgreen's

I’ve been working for Walgreen’s since last July (approximately 10 months) and was recently accepted into pharmacy school starting this fall. I was under the impression that you became an intern from the moment that you were accepted into pharmacy school, thus being entitled to intern pay. However, my pharmacy manager has not mentioned anything to me yet. I know that Walgreen’s has a tuition assistance program and whatnot and was wondering how soon after you are accepted can one take advantage of these benefits? Also, am I supposed to wait until my manager says anything to me about becoming an intern or do I have to go out and find forms and whatnot myself? I guess I just want to know how to get the ball rolling…

I’m hoping that those of you who work for Walgreen’s and are currently in pharmacy school can help me out. Any advice will be greatly appreciated 👍

Correct me if i am wrong...but i believe that you have to obtain an intern pharmacist lisence before getting a raise. As of the educational assistance program ( I assumed u meant "progressive" plan), you need to contact your district supervisor for an ID/password to log in and apply. Remember, it's also a committment to work for walgreens after you grad (depending on how many years you get the awards = number of year committed), else you have to repay them.

You're from Illinois, there is no special Pharmacy student license. Though, I will be concerned a P-2 as soon as I receive all of my P-1 grades; you will not be considered a P-1 student until you have your first day of class. Right now, you are not considered, in Illinois law, to be a student Pharmacist. You are a matriculating student and not a current student of pharmacy. You won't be able to receive the higher salary until August 28.

That's very interesting....I work at a Walgreens in Illinois (since last August) and I was told I'd get a raise and "intern status" just from being accepted to pharmacy school once I turn in my acceptance letter to the D.O. I haven't as of yet since I'm debating whether or not to stay there because of shady goings on at my store and possibly the whole district.

Thats what they told me when I was hired, but when I told my pharmacist that I was accepted to pharm school, she didnt mention anything about bumping me up to intern status. I dont want to seem greedy and ask for a raise, but the truth is I could really really use the $$ 😳


btw, you should definitely stick with Walgreen's...it truly is the best retailer our there when you compare it to other major chains

Talk to your store manager, he's the one who let me know about it.
