This is a bit OT, but whats the average pay of a tech where you are? I am more interested in hospital figures... I think it tends to pay more. thanks 🙂

cool thanks... is the higher end of that range commensurate with experience or how much you know? any idea?

oh btw i am in new jersey not chicago. 🙂

In Texas I make $12 at the hospital, and a co-worker who has more experience makes $15.

Thanks, and FYI anybody who is interested in the PTCB exam, the registration for the July exam starts March 28th. They only hold it 3-4 times a year. Just a heads up. 🙂

i'm an on-call tech with 6 years experience working at in-patient hospital pharmacy in Ca -make $26.37/hr

Texas, Retail Pharmacy, No Exp. other than compounding, college degree, I get paid $8.90, yeah, it sucks.

$10.65/hour at Target (just started but have 4 years experience elsewhere, not certified, BS degree)

In Florida, at Publix specifically, you'll start at like $7 with no experience. I started in 2002 at $6.50!!!! Now I have a BS (which did not get me a raise BTW), I'm not certified, and have been there for 3.5 years and make $9.25. Yuck!
Hospitals here pay about $11/hr so I hear. Certification is required.

OK I work at a hospital in South Florida, where I get $14.50. 😳

I used to work for Publix when I lived in Florida....they are tight with the money, that's for sure! I am planning to go back to them after I get done with pharmacy school....guess there's a sucker in every crowd! 😀

I work at a pharmacy in VA, make $11.59/hr, certified, experienced.

Publix is def tight with the money! I've been there forever it seems and my dad has worked for Publix for over 30 years! Publix will sucker you in with great benefits and awesome stock! It's a big rip though when you're 1)part time and 2)something other than a manager or pharmacist!

Im in VA, working as PRN pharm. tech at a hospital pharmacy...the base pay for me is $10.70, but $11.70 if i work nights, $12.70 if i work weekends

Whoaaa. I make $7.50/hour and I thought I was getting paid a lot! 😛

Looks like hospital techs get paid more. What's the difference in the work?

I work at CVS in Maryland. Started at $5.75 a year ago. Just got bumped to $6.15 an hour because the minimum wage in Md. went from $5.15 to $6.15!!!

Making $10/hour at CVS in Texas. I'm pretty sure that even the techs in training (no license) make at least $8/hour here. But I haven't asked what anyone else makes.

i make 11 per hour.

i'm not sure..i've never worked in retail before. it may be that hospital techs are in more demand than retail techs? i know my pharmacy is aching for more techs.
but what i would guess that techs do in hospitals that they dont do in retail is make IV's, piggy backs, hyperales, etc; learn how to work those freakin electric medicine carts 😱 on each floor; fill the freakin electric medicine carts 😱 ; deliver drugs to each floor every hour; refill and exchange code carts; and other hospitalish things.

In the hospital, techs don't have to deal with patients in their face or insurance... however, there are about 10 or so different areas that techs are put to work in my hospital (where you get put varies daily and depends on how much experience you have). Some of the different jobs we have are working the stat counter (answering phone calls, looking up patient med profiles, answering nurse & dr questions), working in the IV room (make IVs, pretty much), entering TPN orders, refilling the PYXIS machines, troubleshooting the PYXIS machines, working in the pediatric pharmacy (stat counter/po meds/iv meds), working in one of three different chemo pharmacies, working in OR pharmacy, working in outpatient pharmacy, non-PYXIS med delivery, packaging medications, unloading and shelving the medication delivery order for the day etc...these are each jobs that we have for the whole day- there are many many different things to do and learn as a hospital tech! There are other components of those jobs too, like the previous poster mentioned- exchanging & restocking crash (code) cards, etc. Basically, the more places you can work and the more experience you have, the higher the pay scale. Hope this helps. 🙂

I make $8/hr at CVS in TX... But I'm not a tech... I'm a PSA - Pharmacy Sales Associate... but i pretty much do everything that a tech does. Also, I'm not certified yet, nor have much experience! About 10 days!

Move to california 😎 😀

I work at a CVS in Florida and make $8.50/hr. I've been there for just under one year and became certified in March so I'm hoping for a raise to at least $10.00/hr. If not I'm considering taking my certification (which CVS paid for), my one year of experience, and applying for a hospital job which seem to pay about $3.00 - $4.00 more per hour with equaivalent experience.

I've workes at Walgreen's for a year and a half. Started at $9 now make 12.75. I am certified and am also a senior tech so I get bonuses. No idea what that will be since this year's bonus will be the first I am entitled to but my other senior tech said ~$750. I work in Scottsdale, AZ Hospitals pay more but they don't train you or pay you to take the ptcb and the one's out here require at least a year of experience. Also the people who I know that work for them say that there is no schedule flexibility.

$13.67/HR Walmart, Oklahoma, 7 Years experience and Certified

N CA - my tech makes $20/hr, 15 yr experience & worth every dime!

My hospital techs make $13-20/hr depending on experience & permanent/on call status

Does anyone know how much pharmacy interns make in florida??? thanks

$12.65/hour with 2 years as a tech for Sav-on in SoCal. I used to be certified by PTCB but let my registration expire after I figured out it didn't matter once I was licensed.

In 8 months I start making $15/hour. 🙂

$13.00 in IL, 5 years certified

I'm a senior tech at walgreens and make $14.50/ hour. they started me out 2 &1/2 years ago at $8.75/hr. I am certified and worked at Eckerd before that (1/2 mile down the road) where I made $5.75/hour---yuck! 😎
I'm in TN.

8.16/hr after a year and a half (Rite-Aid) in NY, and they do not pay more for certification, etc.

Are you my dad?? Hehehe....no, my dad is an alum of the Pharmacy Sch. at UF and his email is [email protected], ME, not realizing that you are on here with that screen name...I chose a name that I really should've not chosen and started it off as Rxgator...instead....sorry for the confusion. 🙂

How are the benefits for techs? Medical, Dental, 401K bonuses, vacation etc?

My sister is looking into becoming a tech. Are there any hopes for advancement?

Thanks for any help 🙂

Are all you guys that are making less than $9 in TX certified? I thought the minimum wage for certified technicians was $9.50... I work in a hospital pharmacy and started off with no experience for $10. Now I make $12 with two years experience. BTW this is part-time.

At the two chains I've worked at (Walgreens and Kroger) I have met two women who started as pharmacy techs and are now store managers. They both worked hard in their pharmacy jobs and then were invited to join the management training programs of their respective stores.

At Walgreens, all store managers and assistants are required to be certified pharmacy techs so that they understand and can help out with the pharmacy.

San Antonio, 9.40/hr, not a tech, not an intern, however I am starting P1 in the fall 😀

Thanks, thats good news for her.

In San Antonio, TX-I made 12.37/hr at Walmart pharmacy, then moved on to Caremark where I made 14.50/hr, and then to Aetna, where I made 13.25/hr.

I am wary of working in a retail setting.

Can I get a job in a hospital pharmacy directly without any experience? I already applied but haven't heard back... they needed experience. Do you think I'll have a better chance with a tech certificate?... i am taking it next month.

any tips?

thanks

I just started working at CVS pharmacy and make $7.50/hour. Not bad for Indiana, especially considering that I haven't started college yet...

OMG! 😳 What state are you in? Do you work retail or in a hospital setting? I assume you're certified. ???

My very first pharmacy job back in 2002 as an intern was out in the middle of nowhere (small town) and I was paid $5.50/hr. Then I moved to a different store in a much larger town and was paid $7/hr. Looking back on that, it makes me appreciate where I came from.

I really hope anyone who makes more is appreciative of what they have.
