So, I was looking at the pharmcas gpa calculator and it says that they don’t do grade forgiveness and that they average them all out.
For example my 1st year out of highschool many years ago I just stopped going to class and never dropped courses and got 3-F’s and 2-D’s 👎 obviously I have retaken these courses and got a B or higher in them.

This is going to kill my gpa if they average like that? 😡
Do you think this will be an issue it was about 8 years ago.

Explain to them in the interview, that's half of what it's for. Either way, I suggest you contact the schools you wish to apply to for more info.

yea i plan to do that i just have to get to an interview...

i just think it sucks how a mistake actually 10 years ago is now going to haunt me.

On the plus side, think of it this way: if nobody else gets academic forgiveness either, maybe your early screw ups won't look so bad, in comparison.

I imagine they would take it into account that you were 8 years younger at the time, as well. If you're more serious (academically) now, this should come through in your more recent grades/experiences/essays.

Pharm schools will definitely see when you took those courses years ago and see how you are doing now. The upward trend and motivation is there and I believe you will have a chance at an interview as long as the entire package looks solid. Trust me, just keep up the good work!

positivity, that's what i like to see 🙂.
i have decided to also look at some non pharmcas schools, and call a few to see if they do their own grade adjustments.

Excellent idea! Some schools are cooler than others and it never hurts to call. Once again, good luck and don't hesitate to ask me any more questions about the whole app process!!!

I also have grades from 10+ years ago that i am not proud of. i have been calling around and yes you should definitely apply to some non pharmcas schools. i have decided to apply to 5 non pharmcas and 5 pharmcas schools. i am concerned that they will just see a low cGPA and not look into my file for the whole picture. my cumlative will be at the end of the summer a 2.9-3.0 but i have above 3.7 in the past two semesters. i am not quite sure if i should contact the pharmcas schools ahead of time to explain/ask questions about this.

I am in the same boat, my cGPA from pharmcas sucks... there are some schools that just do a science gpa and I read on another’s site they only use the highest grades, so there are some out there that figure differently.

when I called some of the schools they said as long as you meet there minimum gpa requirement that they review the entire file and will notice that the grades were so old and look at upward trends.(I still think they will rubber stamp you rejected at some).

Every school I applied to re-calculated my GPA using their own guidelines.

And most schools do not except classes/grades from more than generally 7 years ago. Just give them a call and ask them if and how they calculate your GPA on their own.
