Peeps:

I was wondering if you guys know how long the pharmd/jd program is at USC, and is it worth it. And is it hard to get into the program? More info would be very helpful. Thanks.

Mai

Maybe the USC people can answer the question more in depth, but when I was reading the application, I thought it said that the PharmD/JD program took 5 or 6 years ( I think it's 6 years because the PharmD/MBA takes 5 years, and I would think getting a law degree would take a bit longer). Here is the website where you can find more information about the dual program offered at USC:

I don't know much about USC's pharmacy program but a friend of mines said that there are constant postings on the boards for pharmd/jd with salary ranging in the upper 250k.

The only experience I have with USC is the MPH/PharmD program, which my friend is attending.

Maybe BMB or Lizziebeth knows something about their jd/pharmd program, but i don't know anything about it. I know their alums get the hook up.

From my own forays into the field and research into legal salaries, I can't see a pharmacist/lawyer salary being that large even with benefits. From what I've gathered, the average expectation is somewhere between 120 to 200k for a brilliant SOB. If the lawyer has an IP certification, then it possibly could go to 250K+. If I became a lawyer, I would need to work on the order of 13 to 18 good years to equate to what a CRW pharmacist would make for a 40 hour pay period. However, as a lawyer, the minimum expectation for billing is 60 hours per week in most firms, so that argument really doesn't hold water. It is the interest of PRACTICING pharmacy law that should draw an applicant, not the research or the money.

Usually the course takes 6 years of study with students paying pharmacy for 3 and law for 4. This equals over 100K in debt!!! Competition in pharmacy at USC is moderate to painful for Rho Chi, but their law college has a pretty strong backstabbing and negative component for the Order of the Coif. In both programs, "A" is for "anal-retentive."

Its not about dual degrees but dual degrees with experience. JD/Pharm.D without experience in either field is deemed useless.

As I recall, USC expects you to apply to its law school during your first year in pharmacy school at the latest. It is highly suggested that you take the LSAT during the summer before you enter pharmacy school.
