PhD or not PhD

I??m an International Medical Graduate. While I prepare for USMLE exams, I have two options: one is to pursue a good PhD program in biomedical research; the other is to get a postdoc position in some biomedical research lab. Which option is better?
Does internal medicine admission committee look favorably at MD/PhD double degree?
