For those of you graduating this spring quarter, did you already receive the invitation to join?

That is an exellent question. Unfortunately, I do not know the answer. As I recall, I was notified in March and the induction ceremony was during commencement weekend with a nice brunch for the inductees and their parents. However, I did not graduate from UCLA. But, yes, I think that you would have heard by now. Mere speculation on my part, however.

Peyton Manning is the only NFL player in Phi Beta Kappa, with the possible exception of the defensive back from Florida State who is a Rhodes Scholar, recently drafted. Good luck. I hope that you make it.

Having raised what is a serious question, be prepared for the onslaught of Phi Beta Kappa bashers, who are numerous on SDN, who will tell you not to spend the $75 that you will probably blow on beer during the next two weekends anyway.

I don't go to UCLA either, but I go to another UC and our website says people will be notified in mid-May.

I think people are informed about 4-6 weeks prior to graduation, on average.

Deans' list and any variation on that is fluff. Unless you have so much grade deflation at your school that a 3.2 puts you in the top 4% of students, the grades and gpa on your application tell adcoms all that they need to know. Save honors and awards for big deals like Phi Beta Kappa or the Nobel Prize.

BTW, some chapters might defray the costs of joining if you can't afford it.

Don't let anyone tell you not to spend the $75 on PBK. It's a very prestigious honor and many would be immensely happy to be in such a position. Now, some other societies, like Golden Key for example...not so much. Not saying don't do it, but saying it's more reasonable not to.

I don't know about UCLA, but my school also gave us our invitations in March. I don't know if this is policy for all chapters or not, but I'm sure that they'd send it out well in advance of graduation so they could plan the fancy ceremony thing that they do.

If you get in, pay the $75, but don't waste money on the key and **** 🙂

Also, the Key Reporter (the magazine you get from PBK) is pretty lame.

I go to UCLA and am graduating in June and just got invited. If you go to MyUCLA and then on your study list click on the commencement link on the left, it will take you to where you ordered tickets and if you were invited it should say there. They also send a letter to your official mailing address. They said they only accept the top ~7% and its pretty prestigious.
