Can a US citizen go to college in the Philippines and end up in a US med school? Or should that citizen go to a US college, attend med school in the Philippines, and try to get matched into a US residency? Also, if a US citizen is trained internationally, can they practice in America?

A US citizen that studies internationally wouldn't be considered a foreigner in the US, right?

If you can, the best option would do undergrad and medschool both in America.

But if you have US citizenship, the doing college in the Philippines and med school in America would be better in the long-run provided you go to a well-recognized school in the Philippines. US med school will get you US residency.

It's possible to do either. After your 2nd year, there are several US med schools that will accept foreign transfers. They do require that you have finished USMLE Step 1 and have taken the MCAT and be a US Citizen. You can also graduate from a Philippine Medical School, and get matched into residency. You have to make sure that the Philippine Medical School that you are going to attend is recognized by WHO (World Directory of Medical Schools) (World Directory of Medical Schools) if you want to practice in the US.

Even if you're a US Citizen and you graduated from a foreign school, you are still considered an IMG (International Medical Graduate).
