Hi everyone:

I'm a fourth year student at Cebu Doctor's University in the Philippines. I'm an American citizen of Filipino descent, and due to financial constraints and an interest in my culture, I chose the option of learning outside of the country.

My goal is to eventually practice in California, where I'm originally from.

I wanted everyone's feedback on this, as I have been having a tough time deciding what I should do:

Should I take the Boards in the Philippines for Licensure, or not?

I have heard that it would help me, because schools in the States are looking for out-of-school setting experience, but on the other hand, I have heard it will only help me a little because some countries do not even offer Licensure exams to their students and they can practice right away; thus the schools in the States cannot determine exactly the level of your education just by being licensed out of the country.

I would be grateful for any feedback you guys have to offer.

Thanks

The license you obtain from the Philippines will be of little, if not, no use in the US. Make better use of your time studying for the NBDE instead. Best of luck on your future endeavors.

Thanks so much for your reply, Jules711. May I ask why it is you say that? Do they not consider having a licensure when applying to an IDP program in the States? Does it not carry a lot of weight?
