I apologize if this doesn't deserve its own thread, but I thought it may be fun to discuss/share different apps people use on their smartphones (iphone, droid, etc.). I recently got an iphone4, and I'm wondering if there are any good psychology-related apps that people like to use. Apps for fun facts, diagnoses and codes, DSM, psychotropic drugs, EPPP, etc. Also, any other apps that may be helpful for fellow posters (e.g., dropbox), even if they're not directly psychology related.

Share away!

I know there's an EPPP app floating around out there (I think it's $25-ish), but no clue how good it is.

Personally, the most useful psych-related apps I've found for my Droid are basically just a good stopwatch and timer. And for just general utility, DroidLight comes in handy quite often.

The stopwatch and timer are a life saver! 👍

I have the "Psych Drugs" app (I believe it's free though I got it quite some time ago so that may have changed). It has an extensive list of psychiatric drugs (in alphabetical order). When you tap any one drug, it opens up and shows you the generic and brand names, what class it is, the indications for it, all the dosages, the maximum daily dosages (separated for adults and children), and also the half life. You can also create a "favorites" list for any drugs that you might need to reference frequently. There is also a search feature.

A good stopwatch/timer is key, though I believe that is pre-loaded on all iTouches/iPhones (just select the "Clock" icon). One app that is not psych-related at all but I have found to be helpful is "GasBuddy" - I believe this one is free too. It tells you the price(s) of gas at each of the stations near you (and/or any city/zip code you wish to enter). All the prices are submitted by other users of the app and they seem to expire after a certain amount of time has passed since the price was reported (seems to be somewhere in the 36-48 hour range). You can enter gas prices very easily and when you do, you earn points. Every time you earn 1,000 points in a week, you can enter a free drawing to win $250 in gas.

Just browsed the Android Marketball for Psych Drugs, and unfortunately it doesn't look like it's available for us yet. GasBuddy is, though, so I'll definitely be giving this one a try.

And yeah, the Droids (or at least my Droid X) comes with a decent timer, but to the best of my knowledge, there wasn't a stopwatch preloaded. Finding the app was easy enough, though, fortunately.

Forgot to mention: no apps/games list is complete without mention of Words With Friends and Angry Birds.

I have the 3D Brain app for the iPhone 4, and it's been amazing. It's free, and you can get brief info on all the structures of the brain and view it 3D, hence the name. It also labels the different parts of the brain. Good app for studying! 👍
