Is a photo submission necessary for every school? I am a little worried. I checked the Columbia Dental School website, and no where did it mention that a photo submission is necessary. However, I then call Columbia admissions, and the lady tells me that a photo submission is necessary. WTF. So now, I am thinking that even though dental school websites don't mention it, a photo submission is necessary. Please clarify, someone.

Anyways, what kinds of photos are you guys submitting? I am thinking of submitting a photo of me crossing the finish line in the San Francisco Marathon. Do you think that's a good choice? What are your photos like?

And finally, WHAT IS THE POINT of these photo submissions, darn it? I have to waste more money for envelopes and stamps to send these out. Costs a fortune to apply to d-schools. Blah.

This topic has been recently discussed ad nauseum on this forum, so I'll be brief. Send a photo only when a school specifies to do so. You crossing the finish line is not what schools want - by 'photo' schools usually mean a 2"x2" passport photograph so that they can match a face to your file. No, it's not a beauty contest. No, adcoms don't base decisions on your mug.

it influences their decision in some way i'm sure, although they say its for identification purposes only

It helps them remember you -- when they interview you seeing your picture in your file reminds them who you are.

LoL!!

I think you should definitely include the marathon pic. What a crackup! You can start a trend of people attaching odd pictures to show we are well rounded, renaissance types...

I think I'll include a pic of me w/ my co-workers at the strip club. Like your marathon pic, this will demonstrate something I'm very proud of...

Wait no. the adcom's might get confused and think my girl Bambi is the applicant. There goes that idea

I know that a lot of state schools like mine are actively seeking to weed out the ugly applicants. It just makes school an all-around more pleasant experience for everybody.

Good Choice! I'm thinking about sending a glamor shot. Or maybe even me in my high school wrestling outfit, with my 'crazy face' on.
