30 Second This Thread Is about: I need to find a physics course with a lab that I can complete and have a grade for by August 1st. My undergraduate institution and the universities of my home state have got nothing. Can SDN help me find a course to make up my 1.4 hour deficiency in physics? Online Classes Completely Acceptable. Must have lab. I'll list at the bottom of this post the suggestions already made.

Deadline for completion: August 1st

The long version: So I went through the grind, the worries, the fear, and was accepted at my first choice school (WVSOM). Naturally, I was and am elated, but I've got a problem. Before I can matriculate, I need to acquire 1.4 more hours of physics.

Originally, I went to Ohio State and picked up 6.66 hours of physics (they're on the quarter system). I transfered to a new school and averaged 19 hours a semester to graduate on schedule. I took an entire years worth of organic chem in the summer. I graduate one week from today and had to take 25 hours this semester to do it. My schedule has been full. How can I gain the hours in physics I need in the next two months? I have a trip scheduled to the middle east at the end of July so an online course makes the most sense.

The catch is, whatever I find needs to have an associated laboratory. I'm hesitant to create redundancy in my physics experience lest they not accept it. If I were to continue my physics from the general physics series, I would be dealing with waves. Though some physics departments get astronomy as well. I wouldn't mind doing an astronomy course so long as it gets that beautiful physics designation and has a lab. Naturally I'm searching everywhere. Any help is appreciated.

Suggestions So Far:
Eastern Oregon University
Parkland Community college

Seems pretty silly doesn't it?
I'm curious about the Eastern Oregon distance class as well. In fact I requested some info the other day but don't expect to hear until tomorrow since it's been the weekend.
Good luck....

Anyone else take a physics class online?

AACOMAS doesn't count physics based astronomy as physics credit so you better check with your school prior to taking physics based astronomy. Sucks because it was 4 hr physics with lab that I pulled an A in and aacomas didn't count it. Best check before you take it

This is the only one I know of, and since you only need a single quarter of it (they are on the quarter system) I think this is your best bet, but I don't think you have much time to stall if you're taking ANYTHING this summer.

Also I'm curious what you hear back Prima

At this point AACOMAS is out of the loop. But I will check with my school.

Still checking...I got in touch with the EOU registrar today who was kind enough to set up a web account for me so I *could* register but I'm still waiting for the professor to return my email to see if he's still teaching it and if there are any slots open. I think there are a max of 10 seats/class.
Still, with my ridiculously inflexible work schedule this is probably my best option.
For the two in-state SC schools I don't actually *have to* take physics, but since I have decided I want to expand my options I am going to bite the bullet and take it. At the moment I'm listing it in "planned courses" in AMCAS and AACOMAS 2009.
I have all the other prereqs for my PA program a decade ago. I may have to brush up but we'll see what I can afford/what I can squeeze in.

Update:

So I got in touch with EOU and the professor who is teaching the course I need. It has a lab, and the earliest they can get my grade to me is August 4th, which is the day orientation begins. Providence? I think so.

I went ahead and registered for PHYS 201 and 202 at EOU this summer. I corresponded with the professor a few times and he seemed very encouraging and sent me an advanced copy of the syllabus. It looks very doable as long as I don't procrastinate too much 🙂 there's also the option of doing a class over two quarters but I'd rather get it done.
Pretty decent price too at $135/credit and no extra fee for OOS...
Good luck!

I decided to go with EOU's 203. I have to admit I'm pretty pleased with the decision. The professor is definatly encouraging and the workload looks very doable. I even had the textbook in advance. Major kudos to whomever talked about it in another thread.
