Hi there,

Quick question. I am looking at some schools in my area and they mention 8 semester hours of physics. However they do not mention what level classes and lab hours.

Can I take physics 101 in the summer and physics 111 in the Fall? Nor do they mention lab requirements unlike the chemistry prereqs which require lab time.

Thank you.

I have physics 1 and 2 with 3 credits of lecture and 1 credit of lab for each.

Will physics 101 and physics 111 work? I believe that 101 is an introductory course and physics 111 is 1 and physics 113 is 2.

I am not sure. Why don't you take 111 and 113 then? If you worry about application timeline, you don't need to finish all prerequisites by the time you apply. You just need to finish all courses before dental school starts. Besides, I don't think lots of school care much about what you got in physics classes.

I'm taking a summer course and the Phy 101 fits my schedule better. I was hoping to study for the DAT all day after class because it was MTWTF early morning and the lab was one day a week. Phy 111 is mid day and the Lab is 3 days a week for 3:30 hours! This time frame really cuts into my allotted DAT time and is even discouraging me from taking it this summer. 🙁

I really am unsure and I'm hoping someone on here also too Physics 101 and Physics 111 without issue.

Considering that physics is a prerequisite, schools and Adcoms definitely do.

You are suppose to take Physics I and II with corresponding labs. Schools will know if you have not. The application will make you fill out your coursework with the course number and class title of each class you have officially taken per your official transcript(s).

Physics will be calculated into your BCP - Biology/Chemistry/Physics and depending on the school, is sometimes weighed heavily! As for what physics courses...I would say you are safe taking any 100-level Physics course (as long as it is not one of those high school refresher courses). When in doubt, call up the school.
