Hi, everyone. I'm currenlty in the 2012 cycle and have got only 1 interview so far. I took 1 semester of Physics I when I was in first year and got B. But, I dropped the next semester of Physics II in that year before any academic record deadline because I was failing the course. Now, I must to take that Physics II in the upcoming winter to fulfill the requirement, but I'm planning to do it wit PASS/FAIL. Do you think it's gonna hurt my application? I could ask each school, but I think schools will say don't take P/F.
Give me some advice please. 🙂

I'm a senior too and I'm minoring in biology. I only needed two more bio courses to fulfill my minor and I ended up taking three so it would look good for dschools. I asked my advisor if I could assign one of those classes a p/f so it doesn't hurt my gpa if I don't do well. I was told I absolutely should not do it. I dunno if that's because it was a science course and maybe it would be different if it was some unimportant non science course. But for you, you're talking not only about a science course but a required for dental school science course. I would absolutely no way in hell take a p/f.

I think it's better that they tell you this now, before you take it...rather than later, when it could be too late. I would call them. Hope it works out for you.

It seems like you don't want to call the schools because you already know what they are going to say. If you take it p/f you may not be able to attend wherever you get it.

You should call each school and find out. They will probably say no because many of the schools have requirements of at least a C-/C for a pre-req.

Thank you everyone for advice. Yeah it's true I don't want to call schools to hear no P/F... 😳 I know how 1st year physics is taught so poorly that it's just self study, but I have to suck it up and go through this...sigh... A road to D-school is like a journey... nothing is too easy. anyway thanks. 🙂

Hey, I'm in the same boat. I have to complete a half-year each of Physics and English next semester, both subjects that I do poorly in and don't enjoy. Hopefully by then I'll at least have an acceptance in hand so I all I have to do is pass, haha. 😳

Physics is a pre-req isn't it? I thought all pre-reqs had to be taken for a grade

Physics is a prerequisite and needs to be taken for a letter grade.

At my school, if you majored in a major that required physics, you also can't take it P/F either. All major classes must be taken for a letter grade.

If it's a science elective, maybe you can get away with a P/F but that also depends on the school.

My friend who got into UCSF told her that, even though she was taking sociology, couldn't take sociology for P/NP, even though it wasn't even a science course!

I would try to avoid pass/fail courses, if you can. Use this as an opportunity to get another A to boost your GPA. Don't fear it!
