physics prereq and acceptance?

I've heard this from several people, but just need verification so I don't go crazy soon...
I'll have all pre-reqs satisfied and am a junior starting spring semester next year (biochem major at university of florida). Only pre-reqs I wont have are physics 1/lab and physics 2/lab. I can still apply to dental schools and have a fairly good chance of acceptance correct? (will be taking phys 1/lab over summer). Im applying this June, so I'm really worried, but I've heard from many you'll be accepted upon completion of this prereq, with of course a reasonable grade. Any knowledge about this out there to help me sleep?

I think that you will be fine. As long as the majority of your pre-reqs are done physics being the last one to finish isn't that big a sting against you. My advisor told me that she didn't think that it matter to much to the dental schools if you were finishing up the physics pre-req during the application year because a lot of students to this in order to get the other classes that will be on the DAT out of the way. Just my opinion.

As Darksunshine said, you'll be fine, especially with physics. I am sure most dental schools understand that a lot of applicants are still finishing up some courses and don't hold that against them (unless you don't complete them). That is why there is a section on the application for you to specify those courses that you are taking or will be taking, and most secondary applications also have such a section.

hi there dextadental, i'm confused here, because as a biochem major, you will need to finish a sequence of either physical biochemistry, or physical chemistry. Both require not only the typical physics course, but the calculus based physics, which also requires not only calculus, but advanced mathematics, i.e. linear algebra, etc. This is whats required here in ohio state atleast, thats why biochem majors typically start off with the hardcore math and physics in their first or second years, since the other half of the major requires these courses as prerequisites.

but as an answer to your question, no, you don't need all the prereqs finished when you apply, as long as you do know that some schools require a bachelors prior to matriculation.

Not too sure how things are ran out in Ohio, but I do know, here at University of Florida, the highest math you need is up to Calc 3 for a biochem major like myself. Physics 1 and 2 with or without calculus is required, no more than that as far as physics go. I specifically meant to take them my senior year because I knew they weren't going to be on the DAT. Biochemsitry here is just a specialization of the chemistry major here, so maybe this is why things are different...not sure but thanks for the assurance as far as the pre-req physics dillema goes. 😎
