Is the speed of waves traveling in water dependent on their depth...ie, do waves travel more slowly in shallow or deep waters, or is velocity independent of depth??

I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but the velocity of any wave depends on the medium it travels in and the type of wave. If the medium has a higher density, that affects the velocity of the wave. Since density increases slightly with depth, that should also theoretically change velocity. Guess it depends how anal the MCAT question is.
