SDN fam, I need your help.

I'm in several labs, but I may have trouble getting an LoR from a particular PI. It's a pretty sweet lab, I've got a great gig, and I am independent for the most part.

Today, I was talking to him/her about AMGEN/SURF and showed her my list.(which included places like MUSC etc). She suggested that "since I am not interested in medical research 😱" I should find a program more relevant to what we do in the lab.

This is going to be a very real issue when I start applying. I always knew she was in support of me going to grad school, but I never hinted otherwise. It's possible that I will be applying to MSTP/MD-PhD programs, but I am very unsure. However, that could be my selling point to her.

Can anyone advise me?

Why haven't you just been more direct about it? Unless you're actually interested in the MD/PhD route, don't try to dance that issue in. Yes, your PI may not like it, but not everyone is interested in being a researcher.

edit: just be straightforward with your PI

Be straight forward ASAP. Now would probably be a good time since the topic was brought up recently. You don't want to wait until your apply and be like, "ya btw im applying to med school. LOR plz"

PS: where do you find these great avatars... And congrats on 2k posts! 👍

UGH. I don't wanna...🙁

Fine. I'll try and find a suitable time to talk to her.

Thanks. I get them from Deviant Art usually.
